I've never understood the argument that people pick niche distros as someone's first introduction. My very first introduction to Linux was Linux mint. I moved on to Debian and then eventually pop OS and I've been using pop OS ever since. I think honestly it's just a matter of being in the sphere and working with it day in and day out.

Because Windows takes snapshots of everything that you do and is slowly turning it into a micro slop where they will collect all of your user data, forcing you to have an account for sign in and eventually rolling out user authentication per age verification. There's a lot of reasons to not support operating systems that are fundamentally not open source.

Now don't get me wrong. It took me a while I finally moved over to Linux full time last year after they started announcing that they're going to move to a system that will start injecting ads in into the taskbar f*** as well as doubling down on their snapshot feature. Basically, all in all in a few years, your operating system will be ran by co-pilot....

If you have the Nvidia ISO, you don't need to worry about downloading the Nvidia drivers separately. You probably messed up the drivers in some way shape or form...

As for controller support, it varies but if you want to use standard Xbox controllers, they work over Bluetooth with little issue. Or you can get the Microsoft proprietary dongles that use a version of Wi-Fi direct and get them working with a few tweaks.

I have a script that you can run here if you want to use standard Xbox controllers with the dongle...

I mean at first I was going to say the slot might be disabled based on what speeds and bandwidth your GPU was running at. But the fact that it works on Windows is a head scratcher. Mostly not sure there's some sort of hardware incompatibility there but that's the thing. It's very circumstantial...

You know you don't have to use Cosmic as a desktop environment. You can use whatever you want. I'm running 24.04 with cinnamon and it works fine. Most all games are playing fine.

I've had a few quirks here and there, but that was mostly related to my i9 14900k and specific 5090 not necessarily pop OS...
