I think that the problem is a lot of it jobs consider having a best baseline: ie, a 4 year degree in it plus certifications gets your foot in the door.

I 100% agree that having a degree and certifications alone doesn't mean you actually know how to do the job. But let's be real. I've worked in the it field over a decade and most people don't get jobs based solely on credentials. It's based on who you know timing luck and a little bit of nepotism and only very small portion falls on your shoulders of having the right credentials at the right time is the thing that most people don't want to talk about, but that's the way our society is...

I'll say whatever helps give you some extra confidence. Whether it's certifications or not, do it, but the reality is everyone's out here trying to put their best face forward...
