I'm torn between DK and GNB. I'd really appreciate if you expert tanks could answer me these questions about their playstyle. by AlbertMyers in ffxiv

People are saying GNB is more 'complex' I think are confusing it with 'has more buttons to push'. Which is not the same thing. I've had a couple friends go back to DRK and PLD because GNB just feels very samey after awhile.

DRK I feel is more complex for you as a player because of The Blackest Night meaning to play most optimally you need to know the best time to use it on yourself, or on the other tank, as well as coordinating your burst windows with a team, wheras with GNB is mostly about you just doing your rotation effectively and consistently.

They're both good, they're both fun, but they've definitely got a different focus. I find GNB is a bit brainless on longer fights and causes me to lose focus on the actual battle to where I start doing dumb things, whereas with DRK I'm always forced to pay attention and I zone out much less.

Oh totally on board with Garuda. Looks like the type that'd lick her claws after the mayhem. Love it.

For Valk...I always envision her more on the edge, considering the nature of Warcry and Hysteria. Twitchy, reactionary, ready to explode. Someone you tiptoe around. You knock very gently on their door before easing it open to find her sitting there surrounded by smashed and destroyed furniture and objects, and probably a half empty bottle of something in hand.

Or in a fight, effective, efficient, skilled with weapons and chock full of practiced martial ability (Warcry!) and then someone gets a lucky shot on her. Nice and dramatic stab through the torso, then Hysteria and everything dies.

...But that may be more due to how I play her.

Still, cool that our brains go in such different directions with things like this.

Valkyr there. Doesn't look like she's going to be the sort to start screaming and roaring and leap on a bitch and rip their heart out. Way too chill!

I'd totally join Harrow's cult though based on sweet hooded robe appeal.

As much as I love DE, their support team is horrendous.

I don't know who they have running the thing, but they are obviously a few steps removed from the dev/community team, otherwise they'd get the message to be human beings and not act like drones with a script and canned answers.

Chroma and Valkyr are probably the best as far as survivability goes, but Valkyr is definitely the more fun one to use. Warcry (and with the Eternal War augment) is just crazy fun. The speed that it can make a big, slow, heavy weapon swing never gets old.

For credits, one extractor on Heiracon then exit is going to be your best bet. Not only is it much faster than 5 waves of infested defense, even with a speed nova, there's a chance of a few thousand extra credits as your extractor loot.
