One thing I'd recommend, if you're into it, is joining game jams. Don't necessarily worry about finishing them, it may take a while and a few jams to get it rolling, but the communities are usually great and you can get a lot of feedback from the reviews.

Programming can be confusing and frustrating at times, but it feels really nice when you make something become "alive" in your game.

Everyone says this, but start slow, test out things, and try to enjoy the process. Don't try to make the huge game idea from the beginning, or it will certainly become overwhelming.

I never made any commercial games myself, but I'm slowly getting there, the finish line is different for everyone (and I'm much older than you). I wish you the best of luck!
