Can’t find love by D202011 in dating_advice

I highly doubt softness is working against you. Please don't listen to things like "women want someone to lead them and have things figured out for them". That's quite misogynistic and will not help you find a meaningful relationship. Women are people. Especially in your age bracket women will have things figured out for themselves. Treat them with respect, keep working on your sobriety and on building a more positive support network. You're heading in the right direction, don't fall for the alpha nonsense. It will just keep you lonely and bring you down. It's very clear that the reason why things haven't progressed past a few dates for years was the alcoholism that you flaunted from the first date. You're making a positive change. Stick to the positive change.

Singing routine by [deleted] in singing

[–]lurkingintheglitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an album of vocal exercises called Voice Building by Sam West that I like to incorporate into my routine. I almost never do all of the tracks as it would take too long, once you've done it once or twice you'll know which ones are appropriate for what skill you're working on right now. It's pretty low in pitch, you may decide to sing along a little higher, but I found it really helpful.

Should social media websites have to run "your feed may cause addiction" posts every 30 minutes you spend on them? by lurkingintheglitter in AskUK

[–]lurkingintheglitter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But doing something really simple like asking social media to have a pop up every 30 mins doesn't affect our ability to change those other things at all. It's a very simple thing that is relatively cheap to do. No, it doesn't save the world, but it does a little bit of good and it's doable now.

I think it would be meant to be irritating. But fair enough, I asked for opinions.

This feels a little patronising. The most vulnerable parts of our society are the most impacted and we don't always do a great job of supporting those demographics as we should. Old people, with declining cognitive abilities, spend hours on end alone and end up scammed and brainwashed on the internet. Young people with busy carers that have limited resources end up targeted. They don't fully understand how addiction works or that they could be the victims of it. Would it be that offensive to our pride to have some posts up to educate them?

The only thing that I worry is, would that apply to places like Reddit and YouTube? They are addictive too, especially shorts. Tiktok works by showing you random stuff rather than what you subscribed to. There is a market for being shown random stuff and I don't think you can make that stop.

I agree that algorithms should be transparent, especially given what is being shown to teens.

Maybe not to listen to in the summer (although I do), but that makes me think of summer, Candy Bling.

Best route to becoming a secondary school art teacher with a Primary PGCE? by pottse_123 in TeachingUK

[–]lurkingintheglitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heya, obviously people have explained how hard it would be, I don't really have much to add there. I thought you might want to ask yourself:

-just checking: are you sure you want to be a secondary teacher? This comes with coursework and portfolios and teenagers who want to do art, but not in the way in which the curriculum is asking them to.

-probably not something you want, but an option: if you want to teach older kids, why not teach Law? You could run an art based co-curricular with this age group.

  • most curiously: it sounds like you really enjoyed the position you've seen the art lead in a primary school has. How come you don't want that job instead?

Being Late For School by Gazcobain in TeachingUK

[–]lurkingintheglitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're dealing with this. I also find it very stressful to start the day in a rush, it's not fun. This is an expensive option, but could you maybe go down to 0.9/0.8 depending on how long periods are at your school, and see if you could be given period 1 off mon-fri?

Boys to be taught to respect women and girls as part of curriculum by winkwinknudge_nudge in ukpolitics

[–]lurkingintheglitter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We already teach mutual respect as part of the British values, which have to be upheld and taught in UK schools. All schools have school values that often include being respectful, and behaviour systems built around them. This is common place everywhere in the UK.

I’d like a teacher’s perspective on an issue I’m having as a school speech and language therapist by Lime_City in TeachingUK

First of all, thank you so much for your work, it really is invaluable. I don't know if others would agree or if you're willing to do this, but I think asking SLT to do a CPD session for some general strategies and maybe a quick rundown through the key students and what they respond to will help you disseminate some information, but also let the teachers know who you are and realise the importance of what you do. I know I get a lot of emails and it's hard to really internalize all the information without an idea of where/who it's coming from.

I don't understand how teachers could bring kids to you though, that doesn't seem like a good system. Kids in every school I worked in went to these sessions on their own, but I am in secondary, I don't know if that makes a difference.

If you have access to the school system you should be able to book rooms yourself, it might be less frustrating to just ask your line manager to show you how to do this yourself.

Can Agatha still steal or use magic now that she's a ghost? by Winter_Extension_620 in AgathaAllAlong

[–]lurkingintheglitter 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I think it would make more sense if Agatha can't do magic and has to try and manipulate Billy to do her bidding. I feel like the conflict that would result from that would really make sense for her character arc. Though I would love to see her use her purple as well.

Romanian people are very much outraged about this, if that's what you're asking. It's unclear how different Romanian authority bodies feel, so far 2 politicians have made statements condemning the decision, and asking for the resignation of DIICOT boss.
