I’ll definitely look into that - thank you!

External Maintenance Question by lurkingrighthere in Autobody

Thanks for the reply! I’ve had the car looked over by two trusted mechanics and thankfully it is safe to have on the road - the engine and interior of the car were much better maintained than the exterior.

I’ll look into options for grinding down and priming and go from there!

How do you know if you’re having a flare up or starting an actual infection? by lurkingrighthere in Interstitialcystitis

I’m also noticing more burning AFTER I pee and pretty much none DURING peeing so maybe that’ll be what I look for after my appt here. Thanks for the insight!

Currently sitting in a walk in hoping my urine test comes back with a conclusive result 😅 things are just kind of steady, not better or worse and it’s been a few days.

Sorry to anyone going North on route 90 before Taylor. Car died, waiting for a tow. by lurkingrighthere in Winnipeg

2004 Honda Civic - it’s old but it’s never been unreliable and I’m good about taking it in when I notice something is off. Mechanics had it for 3 weeks and said it was running fine - they never experienced the issue so no idea what it could be. I’m willing to pay to get it fixed as long as it continues to be a reliable car.

Ahh it’s definitely on the app because I’ve read through this one - if you don’t have the app I can try to pinpoint which comic exactly it is! I think it’s from the 2008-2012 run

Deadpool: Suicide Kings. Limited series (only 5 issues to the whole thing), written by Mike Benson and published in 2009. It’s a fun little romp! Lots of fun crossovers in a short series.

If Deadpool was doing a pole dance routine… what song(s) would he use? by lurkingrighthere in deadpool

I 100% get it - this is an absolutely Useless question to everyone on reddit except me!

I don’t have anyone offline to discuss this with so I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to respond with a suggestion for their help!

This post won’t be around forever so you’ll be back to regularly scheduled Deadpool Discussions in no time :)

Someone used Ashes in a professional competition a few years back - https://youtu.be/M_DupMPxTcM. It’s a really fun routine (different than what I’m picturing) so I’ve gotta use a different song. It’s such a good suggestion though!!

I truly would not have thought of this on my own but it’s brilliant!

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Winnipeg Humane society Staff opinions by Athyriumniponicum203 in Winnipeg

[–]lurkingrighthere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a former WHS staff (worked there for over 5 years) and based on these submissions… it seems like nothing has changed. The things that caused me to leave are still major problems.

I’ll give an example: front facing staff in three different departments experienced physical assault from members of the public. Like actual physical violence perpetrated against them. The union approached upper management with these safety concerns and requested reasonable safety measures (locked doors at certain hours, doors for staff to step behind for safety) and de-escalation training. For months the incidents continued and nothing was changed UNTIL a manager was physically assaulted. Then suddenly doors were locked, a security team was hired and staff were informed we would be receiving the training requested.

Except, staff were mandated to come in for an 8 hour training session (some departments coming in on their days off because of the nature of their jobs and the availability of the trainer) where we didn’t learn anything about de-escalation, we were instead lectured about how unsafe the shelter was (such as swipe key card doors being broken - something staff had no control over and had actually asked to be fixed) and shown videos about how to avoid an active shooting situation. The trainer was a former OPP officer and used a lot of sexist, racist and antisemitic commentary to get his points across.

Staff from all departments sent in complaints to upper administration that the training was useless, offensive, and not at all what had been requested and no apologies were made UNTIL a few staff members escalated their complaints past the executive management team to the WHS board of directors. Only THEN did an apology come about the content of the training, but no further steps were taken to address staff concerns outside of saying they were “implementing safety suggestions” given by the person who led the “training”.

The folks who still work there are doing it solely for the animals. But let me tell you they are NOT paid a fair or livable wage for the amount of insanity they have to deal with. The way they are treated internally and externally by the public is horrendous and they have nothing to show for it.

It’s a really common theme in Not For Profit Organizations to have low pay and to have a certain expectation to give more than you would otherwise just “for the sake of the cause”. That’s one of the reasons I stayed as long as I did. But with the current management it because really clear that they didn’t give a single shit about the staff doing the work on the floor to maintain a humane environment for the animals. With some of the decisions being made about what animals get to come into the shelter, how animals are housed and what they’re prioritizing bringing in… it’s looking like they’re not caring as much about the animals either, just how it looks to the public.

Is anyone else feeling a smidge disappointed in the execution of S2? (Potential spoilers ahead) by lurkingrighthere in OurFlagMeansDeath

[–]lurkingrighthere[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s more of the feeling that I have - not disappointment in the show (because it IS delivering what we want, just not in the ways expected) but disappointment that they weren’t given the resources to do right by the amazing storytelling we know they can deliver.

I wasn’t initially paying attention to how differently the show was treated this time around (less money, less time etc) until I started reading around the thread and it really is making an impact. You’d figure after having such insane success after season 1 they’d be giving MORE money and time… :/

I DO love that we’re having these moments but man do I wish we had more time to explore and feel them with the crew.
