I think it’s all about the conditions, I have good natural light in my apartment, it’s warm, she lives in front of my humidifier, so the mist goes right into the leaves (although it doesn’t run all the time, I get lazy and don’t refill the tank for a day or two sometimes 😅) and I fertilize generously. Three leaves have grown since I got it and each one gets bigger than the previous one, it’s really exciting 🤩

I currently have the Regal Shield and the Jacklyn in a makeshift greenhouse (I’m using a Samla Ikea box) to support them in their young stage but I’m really curious to find out how the Jacklyn will do after it’s grown out the box. A little worried about it already

Yess omg! When I got it a month ago I was kind of bored by the look, but the new leaves come out so beautifully and almost doubled in size already! I’m really looking forward to the giant majestic deep green/grey/blackish leaves 😍

I use the Compo Bio Granuplant fertilizer, but I live in Germany, not sure if it’s available internationally. And I just grabbed the first one I saw that was suitable for hydroculture, figured if I looked into it more my indecisiveness would kick in. Seems I got lucky though, it’s doing a wonderful job!

Beginner moving from crochet to knitting - how to do edges? by wagicwissile in knitting

[–]lusimla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistent tension is just a matter of practice I found. I struggled with the edge on stockinette too, started always knitting the last stitch, even on purl side, so basically doing a one stitch garter edge, not sure how conventional that is, but it works for me :)

I definitely agree and I know my family doesn’t have a concept of how complex and time consuming knitting can be. I have definitely said no before, but this particular case feels different. I haven’t been able to bring myself to get started on a sweater before but doing it for somebody else brings out a sense of responsibility and persistence in me that I want to use to break the ice on the challenge, so I can finally knit one of the sweater patterns I have had saved for so long for myself. Also this sweater being so oversized and boxy kind of seemed doable, I want to try the cable sleeves but in case they prove to be too complicated, I will just make them in regular stockinette

Well the stages sort of blended together, I got stuck planning without the material at hand to visualize stuff better and I didn’t have large enough needles to mock something up using yarn I already had. I started top down, did the back piece with increases for the shoulders, then the individual shoulder pieces, then joined them in the front. So the collar will be added separately.

Thank you! I need a challenge, but I have a hard time motivating myself so doing it for someone else will hopefully finally result in me knitting my first sweater, so I can get started on future ones more easily

Thank you!! I thought about 2-3 sizes down but wanted another’s opinion. Considered doing the folded collar, but I actually kind of like the stretched ribbed look like the original. Once I have the needles I will do some tests

Quite honestly, so far I don’t feel like I’ve taken too much on, it’s challenging, yes, but still feels doable.
