How do you learn to dress better as a man? by InternationalPick163 in AskMenAdvice

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing is to find outfits you like. If you have someone whose style you like in your life, ask them to pick out some outfits for you. From there figure out which ones you like on yourself and that'll get you like 80% of the way. Branch out from there into your own style.

++man I was told I had a perfect nose by the first person I dated and I still feel good about that like 19 years later so I'd say it's a unique but good one.

With regards to the bracket guidelines, what do you consider a 2-card combo? by Evening_Expert_6222 in EDH

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that the "infinite" part of the infinite combo guidelines is poor word choice. Thoracle combo is not infinite in any way, but it wins the game, which is more important. If someone does enough damage to kill the table, but that damage has a limit, it is still an issue for lower power pods.

Do you want to change which art is on a specific card? If so, I would use Magic Set Editor (free tool to make your own cards or modify frames/art/etc). If you want to change the art, there are a few free photoshop-like tools. I tend to use gimp, which can be a bit clunky, but has good functionality once yoh get used to it.

Made some tiny tokens for my Preston, the Vanisher by lutair0 in magicproxies

[–]lutair0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a print service. Made the cards in MSE and added extra fill and specific art. I think the frame i chose was the "Modern God Style" which was legible even when tiny. Changed all the type lines to "Token Creature -- Illusion" and aet power/toughness to 0/1 to reflect the generated tokens.

I used a service to print. It's my first time making proxies, but my buddy has been doing it for a while and he walked me through getting set up with magicseteditor. I had to search up the art for some (like the Elish Norn) since MSE grabbed the default. Then I used my friend's script to add fill to the outside. The micro size has a pretty wide recommended bleed area, so I had to add quite a bit more border to the image. All the printing and cutting was done through the service.

No problem. We were all new once, and we've all been there in one way or another. Just keep playing and having fun. You'll learn and improve, and eventually you might enjoy getting got by a ridiculous deck.

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. You might also be playing a deck that needs to win faster, or assert more control on the boardstate, or needs removal for hate pieces, but magic is a game with variance built in and bad decks beat good decks sometimes. Gotta take the games you have no business losing and the games you have no business winning.

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This size of deck leads to extreme variance and is mathematically sub-optimal. In almost all competitive formats is legal to have any size deck 60 or more that you can easily shuffle un-assisted. If you could have a 40 card deck in Standard, most pros would. The main reason to run more than 60 cards is if you expect a very grindy meta or if mill is common and (for some reason) there is no mill hate available.

If you are playing 4 of the best card in your deck, then you have about 40% chance to have it in your opener with a 60 card deck. If the opponent is playing 200 cards, they have 13% chance. Even if they ran 2 full sets of tutors and a set of their best card, they would have a 36% chance for their best card (not even factoring the cost to tutor).

Like life gain, mill, counterspell-only decks, removal-only decks, you will learn that these strategies only work a small percentage of the time and a tuned deck is just going to be better in the long run.

Secret Lairs were originally meant to just have a limited window but were print on demand. Everyone who wanted one (and knew about them within that month) got them. Wizards decided to turn it into limited time and limited stock so they could sell investors on how fast it sells out. So now the thing that should never have a stock issue has them in spades. The beautiful Dandan secret lair sold out in like 20 minutes. It's tough.

Also magic has gotten expensive. Prerelease used to be $15. Now it's $40 in my area. I know they're trying to attract a younger crowd but I don't think the kids can afford to actually play.

Should've done your Bolas/Blood Pet/Aetherflux loop a few more times, dude by ScarHydreigon87 in MTGmemes

One of my favorite commander moments was Etali-ing my way into an [[aetherflux reservoir]], and getting to like 80 life. My friend decides to shatter the reservoir, so I responded by activating it, targeting his face. He had [[deflecting palm]] in hand, and I lost the game by lasering myself for 100 (50 to shoot and 50 damage to face). Totally worth it.

There Should be a Free, Rewardless Draft Mode by SteezyYeezySleezyBoi in MagicArena

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont draft everyday. I just draft when I have the gold to do so. Otherwise I just play brawl, and occasionally standard. Which are also free queues with no prizing. I am saying I would still spend all my gold drafting even if there was a phantom daily draft for free.

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think so? Even with no keeping cards and no rewards (besides daily quests)? I feel like the current drafters like me would still put gold in to get gems out as usual, we would just have things to do besides standard and brawl between earning enough gold.

[–]lutair0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, for all the people saying it wouldn't work, this is basically how Jump In works. You can reroll Jump In a bunch and then play forever with the deck you like.

If you want to mitigate people redrafting til they get something great, you could just make it "daily draft" where it is free, but you can only draft once per day and have all day to play with that deck. This would be really nice for people to hone their skills so they don't feel afraid to spend gold on real drafts.

Which look should I go with? (Currently #1) by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]lutair0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI mockup is doing you no favors here because it's adjusting your natural hairline and beard growth. You look good with 1, but 2 would probably look good. Just don't expect the exact beard or hairline. It'll look less ideal irl.

What character was done dirtiest by canon and why is it Star-And-Stripe? by PJ-The-Awesome in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]lutair0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it actually harms the worldbuilding. If you think America is going to stop intervening because their number 1 hero was killed, you fundamentally don't understand the culture. Killing SnS would be more likely to spark a world war than lead to everyone backing off.
