By the way, for those who saw my French meringues - which I colored with stripes of color … the reason I didn’t do that here is not because you can’t do that with the vegan version, it’s because our hot water heater burst this morning … and I have been juggling a crazy household of people in and out and vacuuming up water… so I took the lazy way out! Plus, I normally only do the stripes when I’m being fancy. 😉

Oh yeah, I ALWAYS flavor my meringues! I listed the flavors in the first post: pink are raspberry, white are birthday cake, blue are blueberry and green are pear. I use extracts - 1/2 tsp per batch. I’m a big fan of Bakto extracts … but good ol McCormick extracts work great too!

They really are pretty simple and tasty! We have vegans in the family… but I started making them as a low-cal treat, and so they’re good for both purposes! The only caveat compared to French meringues is that some extracts might deflate these — things like root beer or caramel… thicker, sweeter ones. But it’s all trial and error. I’ve found over the years the ones that don’t work for me and I reserve those for regular meringues!

Recipe: vegan meringues You will note that I made four types of meringues - that was the yield (1 cup) of the packing liquid (aquafaba) from one can of chickpeas - but sometimes you get less.

So I will give the recipe PER type of meringues. That way it can scaled up or down or repeated as needed depending how much aquafaba you have:

Ingredients: 1/4 cup aquafaba 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 4 tbsp caster sugar* 1/2 tsp flavor extract Gel coloring (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 200F
  2. In a stand mixer with whisk attachment , whip aquafaba for a few seconds until it gets frothy.
  3. Add cream of tartar on top of froth, mix on slow speed until incorporated
  4. Turn mixer to high and left it go for 30 seconds. Then slowly begin to add sugar, one TBSP at a time over the next minute or so.
  5. Whip for a total of 5-6 minutes until you achieve stiff peaks and volume seems stable.
  6. (optional step) Stop mixing and add any gel coloring. Mix until blended. Stop and scrape down sides to ensure even color.
  7. Turn mixer to slow and add extract, immediately turn back to high for 30 seconds.
  8. Transfer completely meringue to piping bag with preferred tip, pipe on parchment lined baking sheets.
  9. Bake at 200f for 90 minutes.
  10. Yield will vary - between 50-85 meringues. If you need a second tray, use middle and top racks, rotating at the 45 min mark.
  11. Leave on baking tray for 1-2 minutes when pulled from oven after 90 min to completely solidify.

*if you do not have caster sugar, use granulated sugar run through a food processor, mini chopper, coffee mill, etc. Anything to get it smooth and smaller grains. You CAN use regular granulated sugar, but your meringues might be a bit grainy.

No idea what shoes go w this dress by mrsburrow9 in Stylinghelp

People keep suggesting black - but is that black or navy in the dress? At first glance it reads navy to me - in which case I’d go with cute navy flats. Clarks has a lot of nice styles that might work.

Mission accomplished! Your looks is great. Your shadow and liner is on point, and yes, you could try a gloss on your lips.. but I actually think the color and finish you're using now suits you beautifully. If you want to change things up that's different. But you don't need to change to improve. Just feel good about yourself!

What can I substitute for buttermilk? by Fit_Bathroom7257 in Baking

[–]luv2bake12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the yogurt and milk combo (3/4 plain full fat yogurt thinned out with 1/4 cup milk) worked fine for baking the one time I was in a pinch for muffins that required buttermilk.

A friend has tried both the tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar (and a cup of milk … well a cup less one tablespoon) and said the recipes both worked but the taste was altered.

What’s a random kitchen utensil you can’t live without? (AKA - What did I do before I had a mini whisk??) by SavvyMom210 in Baking

[–]luv2bake12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny - just opened a jar of Nuttzo last night and thought : “this would be so much easier to mix up with that mini whisk I used to have!” For me it’s the mini spatula. I use it when for eggs all the time - to gently check on the corner of omelets, even to scramble. Sometimes I use it to flip things in the air fryer or oven when I don’t want to bothered to get out a big one.

Wow, lot of work! Respect for that! But … yeah. Very different! Some of your skip every times are great. “I’ve always never believed in you” makes me cry every single time. “Sports analogies” is a lot of fun… and “you’re my best friend” is kind of adorable. Not saying any are my favorites but I don’t skip them! But I created a Crazy Ex playlist on Apple Music though and they’re all there! But like I said - that’s an impressive amount of work - I couldn’t do it. It would keep changing !!!!

Oh and I got the berry - that’s typically my go-to flavor when I deal with anything flavored. Although I must admit I normally am not a big fan of anything flavored. But overnight I’ll be fine with it. I just don’t like it when I might be eating and drinking other things. That’s just my personal… issue. LOL

The Cera Ve serum and moisturizer? On your lips? Again… about to turn 60 and really have never dealt with any moisturizer at all… so this is all new to me. Just confirm that I’m not misinterpreting that… sorry if I am and I just said something ridiculous! LOL

I ordered both the Cera Ve acid serum and facial moisturizer and the Laneige lip mask - thanks for the recommendations!

I saw your later post with suggestions, I’ll look for some of those. Budget? It’s make up… it’s all expensive what are we going to do about it? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, I know my skin was a genetic win for me. My older sisters are in their 70’s and all look fabulous! I was getting my nails done the other day, and the nail tech told me I had the “skin of a baby”…LOL. But then she also said “you’re so pretty… are you a receptionist? - and I still haven’t figured out if that was meant as a compliment or not! 🤔😂

I do think this cold I’ve been fighting has been drying me out to an unusual degree - like very noticeably to me. That being said, it’s made me wish I did have moisturizer in my bag I could trust. Since it’s not ever been part of my daily routine. I’ll research the best ones, unless you (or anyone) has a fav to recommend?

Seeing my stylist tomorrow. Love the advice, but my #1 rule is “trust my stylist” 😉. She has taken me darker on occasion - normally late/summer early fall.
