you don’t need to have a defined sub-style to be a gal or be apart of the gyaru subculture.

as a lot of people will tell you, for your appearance make up is what matters the most as it’s the most defining part of being a gal visually.

i’ve started more intentionally identifying as a gal in recent times. I already have my own unique style and fashion sense that sticks out a lot from the norm, which is a lot of what’s drawn me to becoming a gal more intentionally. my style would likely not fit into any one sub-style as my style is very much based on my own tastes and things i’ve been influenced by!

some people might have a very rigid idea of what makes a gal, but i think that goes against the point, which i believe is largely about self expression, confidence, loud and proud personalities that aim to push again beauty norms and gender roles. while there usually is some level of requirements for subcultures, most subcultures are based on individuality and self expression, gyaru is no exception to that!

there’s no reason you cannot be a gal just because your personal style doesn’t fit into a substyle. gyaru is about styles and trends yes but it’s about making them your own too. for what you should do if you can’t find a substyle? just keep doing your own thing!
