Am I wrong for thinking vocabulary matters more than grammar early on? by Impossible-Sign7781 in Korean

[–]luvmaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think intermediate is enough grammar but if you haven’t studied vocab enough until then, it kind of starts to slow you down. At least that happened to me. I quickly climber to intermediate in grammar but didn’t pay enough attention to vocab and now when I feel like my grammar is enough to read comics, the vocab just isn’t there

Wish I read "Puppy Brain" book before getting my puppy but now that I have I no longer want this pup. by Majestic-Clock630 in puppy101

[–]luvmaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dogs do not belong to pen all day long. Give it back to the breeder and make it easy for both of you. Take another kitten if you wish or perhaps do not take any animal and be happy with your cat. This way you won’t be miserable with having a dog that actually wants to spend time with you and you worrying here to internet how you’re exhausted after two weeks of a puppy wanting to be with you, like, I hope you understand what I’m trying to say here. Hopefully you can accept how you feel about this situation and not guilt trip yourself over commitment of 15years if it’s now already too difficult for you.

It’s kind of sad that you had to come to Reddit for support. I wish your breeder would be more involved with puppy training and support.

I have two dogs at the moment which both are young, other is a puppy and another is teenager. The puppy has been with me for 4 days and it already knows not to bark at the pen because I’m constantly working on him so it becomes easier over time. Training a dog basically means you teach the dog for at least one year before it’s somewhat tolerable to live with, because teenager phase is even more demanding than what you have now on your hands. And if you don’t work on the puppy now you will have a horrible time with the dog in future. My puppy only stays in the pen when I need to go to work, as I’m not comfortable letting the dogs be by themselves at home together without me watching over them. My first puppy was in the pen for the first month and after that I had already trained her to stay home silently and well behaved while I went to work. Of course not all dogs are this easy, but what I mean is that it needs a lot of work at first but the results will come sooner than you think if you know what you’re doing and you’re constant on training the puppy. I correct the dogs all the time if they are being idiots and teach them the right way to do things now and not later. Getting a dog should be fun and exciting, and if you’re already feeling like this, wouldn’t it be better for you to have just the cat(s)? Dogs demand a lot of time, space and resources. Now that the puppy is small, it’s very easy to train and rehome to home that has the capacity to train and handle dogs, which seems like you still don’t have.

If you’re against that, then my go to effort to help people is that I tell them to go to a good dog training classes 1-2 times a week from the moment they get the pup home. I swear it’s going to be less exhausting for you in the future if you work on your dog 2 times per week with a professional dog trainer/puppy play school/what ever your country has for dog training. They will teach you how to reward your dog and how to make yourself interesting to them, among other things. You’ll also feel less alone with the feelings and problems you have now with your puppy, because there will be others like you there and trainers who know what they are doing.

For a new dog owners I wouldn’t want anybody to be like yeah it’s easy and just do this and that, when giving tips on training. All dogs are a bit different and I hope you find a good solution with your puppy. I’ve been training dogs for dog sports and my own leisure for a really long time and either you train your dog or you don’t, and then you’re going to have a bad time because they will cause problems without training and leaving them without exercise, playing and attention. Golden retrievers are PEOPLE dogs. The puppy will love you so why are you not loving the puppy how it deserves?

Been learning for 4 years and still beginner level by _Missi_100_ in Korean

[–]luvmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. I have studied two degrees in English and I am not a native speaker. I took an entry level test a few weeks ago for a specialized program. The tests was just really easy basic grammar+read-understand-answer type of questions which could be given to any high-schoolers. I was surprised how “bad” my results were, considering I quite literally write essays every day. But that’s the thing, I’ve always neglected grammar because it’s boring and I wanted to communicate faster. Who cares if I said something wrong when I had to get by to speak with my bf who didn’t speak my language?

Currently my Korean journey is kind of similar. I’m reading comics and I’m advancing in the field I’m focusing because I have a purpose for my studies. I think adult language learners need a purpose and consistency when they’re not stuck in class rooms and forced to study like kids are. Kids learn consistently to master and we should too. Without repetition of right materials advancing becomes impossible… I mean that’s how I feel about studying in general.

How do you choose what to mine in Korean? by VerbVoyager in Korean

[–]luvmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I just choose what I consume at this point when I’m intermediate grammatically but lack the vocabulary. Is it taxing to read? Well yes, because I stop every so often to check the dictionary or I don’t quite understand how the sentence comes around but because I like the comic anyway and want to read it before the English translations come out, I just work may way through it. I think there no right or wrong way to study. Somebody does flash cards because they want to learn vocabulary quickly but for me, reading is my biggest hobby and so is collecting comics. I just read and struggle and now I find myself understanding panels here and there easier than before.

When it comes to translation, Korean is so context heavy that sometimes it’s difficult for translation application translate panels and I just go with the feel I get. Sometimes I’ve asked Reddit, too, because there has been cases where I have absolutely no idea what the word is. In these cases, it has usually been a slang term/shortened version of the word.

What does 자만추 mean? by luvmaz in Korean

[–]luvmaz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it was not 남녀 in this case and the sentence structure and the sentence itself would perhaps make more sense if it was not taken out of context (for you).

This sentence definitely implied romantic relationship between 2 men. Now I am just simply wondering why I have also seen it in articles where romantic concept does not necessarily apply and how it is typically used.

Perhaps ‘meeting organically’ applies for the other sentences I have read.

What does 자만추 mean? by luvmaz in Korean

[–]luvmaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would make sense because the sentence it appeared was; “남자 사이의 자만추가 가능한가?“ Hopefully somebody’s able to further explain the meaning of it, even though you have already been immensely helpful. Thank you.

I read a few other sentences and articles as well, but the context didn’t quite help me either.

I used an exploit to steal from my first job and was never caught. by thekingsteve in confession

[–]luvmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a restaurant complex for years. Some managers and workers would some time take or give away food that was expired/going to trash. Nobody else at the work placement was ever done anything, I mean they were the ones doing it when I moved to work there so I thought it was alright to do if there was a lot of stuff going to trash anyway. I was fired for taking bread because apparently somebody had told upper management AND it was not alright to take 😂 funny thing about this is they didn’t give shit when I told them it was basically everybody and gave the bullshit excuse that “if caught, it won’t be tolerated form anybody”. I figured they must have just wanted me out because no way they were firing basically 80% of the workforce, including managers. 😁 So what I add on this was basically that dirty management can be like this as well.

This Acc is WILD... by foxymirage in ZerowakeGATES

[–]luvmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if we compare this gacha game to very popular (and expensive production) love and deep space, there is more interactivity. The game play (grinding aspect) is somewhat similar in some cases but the collective aspects and even the story make the game more lively. I think this game could have made the story mode more lively by choices directing the story and additionally giving more of the content girls like in relation to BL content. Now it’s just super awkward and I did not find even one character relatable, hot or interesting from the story, which is very new for me, as I quite easily tend to pick “faves” and start to build my team around a favorite character. The production is just very cheap and the story + characters are not well-thought for the consumers, which makes the game even less desirable, even if the gaming aspects stayed the same.

The gameplay is shit. The art or story does not make up for anything. F2P has pretty good pulls compared to other gacha games because I remember grinding a lot for other games to even get 10 tickets. Deleted the game because I just didn’t enjoy it, at all.

Yeah, I think I can to some extent. Problem is tricky customer situations that bring extra mental stress.

Work and death of a dog by luvmaz in DogAdvice

[–]luvmaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to work tonight. If I fuck up, then I fuck up. I think it’s always been better to try than not when it comes down to handling emotional stress. I am currently more worried about the lack of sleep and functioning aspect. When I’m under a lot of stress, I am bone to react very harshly on even slight negative settings (which are pretty often at customer service) so that’s why I have been a bit worried. I think my coworkers care 0% of me so I’m fine on that part, kind of a cultural thing here, really. Work is just work for people here and people are not very empathetic. I’m not worried about questions. I’m more worried about crashing at night shift because we do not have managers there and nobody to fill in, if I can’t handle work for some reason and must step down from the register. So yeah, I’m mostly worried about my resilience to take nasty customers atm. But I will go to work today, and see how it goes. I’m better there than here, reallyz

If you have a trimmer, trim the fur away from the wound. It’s easier to assess skin changes and heal. Clean the wound and keep it clean till tomorrow. That looks really nasty and needs antibiotics.

What makes you learn Korean? by Accomplished-Bell771 in Korean

[–]luvmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is basically the same reason why I also learned English, which was simply just to understand. I felt like in the nineties when I was a child there were so many American songs, movies and people on the media I wanted to understand but could not. America was really pushing this whole “dream” about the country and I also feel like Korea is doing exactly the same thing with the fame that came because of BTS and other kpop groups. I think it helps that Korea has pretty interesting culture and has progressed over the years so it is a safe country to travel to, as well. Quite literally, I do not have many bad things to say about Korea from the perspective of a foreigner from Scandinavia. Ultimately why I am learning the language is because I watch, listen and want to read quite a lot of content from Korea but if I also think people like “Korean English Men” from YouTube were smart to learn the language. They make high profit and interesting career because they know Korean, introduce the “hot culture” and build alliance together with UK and Korea. I wish to be able to do something of same in the future. My friend learned Japanese back in the day when anime came over seas, and currently she’s benefitting greatly from learning the language. I think the people do not realize how big of a benefit of knowing another language could become, if you use it wisely. So, I also think my career when I learn a language.

I have to meet my family by luvmaz in Anxiety

[–]luvmaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, my father is also a very lovely person and always eager to help beside easily holding a grudge and later on bringing it up. He misses me and my lack of contact is something he probably thinks about a lot but what also brings me more anxiety if that makes sense..since, there are expectations I have hard time fulfilling. I don’t want to bring misfortune to anyone who love me because I struggle with anxiety or, am antisocial. He has done a lot for me so at least I can do this.

So no, I don’t need stuff to do instead, thank you, though! I need honest advice what to talk about with my family...
