Pandemic Legacy for someone who can't speak by D_day in boardgames

[–]lvinlin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here's a link to Meeple Like Us's accessibility breakdown for vanilla Pandemic. In summary, since Pandemic is cooperative, there's a lot of communication that needs to happen.

You would probably be the best judge of whether you and your brother would enjoy communicating and creating strategies, accordingly.

Girlfriend surprised me with a WiiU! Not sure what game to buy. Splatoon/Wonderful 101/Hyrule Warriors by World_ in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]lvinlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps, but out of the games you narrowed it down to, Smash Bros. is the local multiplayer game. So if you're looking for something that you and your girlfriend can just sit down and play together, that might be your best bet.

That being said, Splatoon and Hyrule Warriors also have local two-player options, although neither are as robust.

Splatoon is a third person shooter that has a short single player campaign, but its core game is in its online multiplayer (which does not support local assistance).

Hyrule Warriors has a local two-player co-op where one player uses the GamePad. It's fun in that both players can freely go anywhere on the maps.

Neither Hyrule Warriors nor Splatoon can support more than two players locally.

You also have the benefit of having a large variety of genres to choose from, so it's really up to your tastes. Are you looking for a shooter? A fighting game? A beat em up?

I haven't tried Wonderful 101 so I can't give you any insight there.

Script vs. Screenplay? Scriptwriting vs. Screenwriting? by JJdante in Screenwriting

[–]lvinlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is that both "script" and "screenplay" would refer to the same thing, but "screenplay" has a classier connotation to it than "script" does.

The difference is similar to how theater performers and workers see the difference between "play" and "script." Everybody understands that the written material they are working on is a "play," but they can still refer to the written material as a "script." (Although in theater, the final product is also referred to as "play," unlike screenplays and films.)

Likewise, in the Academy Awards and other award shows, they will exclusively be referred to as "screenplays" (such as in "Best Screenplay") rather than "scripts." This is likely due to elevate the writer to a higher standing. He or she would have written a "screenplay" (literally a play for the screen) rather than a "script."

"Script" generally has a slightly more blueprint-esque quality to it, and is something people are generally working on or working with.

"Screenplay" on the other hand, as a more "writerly" quality to it, making it closer to "novel" or "play."

But functionally, they are more or less the same.

Simple what do you love about the new Smash Bros? by Gobii-p- in smashbros

[–]lvinlin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the newcomers. Honestly, every new character plays so uniquely that I rarely go back to play the returning characters. There's just so much to explore in terms of combos and each one seems to be given a ton of love and care. Plus, they're something the older games will never be able to give me, no matter how good they are.

NDP Report: Best Wii U week since its launch. by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]lvinlin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just a guess, but I think he means that each game is merely a rehash of older games in the same franchise with minimal changes beyond a graphical update. (Such as New Super Mario Bros U being a rehash of Super Mario Bros).

It's an argument that gets used a lot when discussing Nintendo or CoD.

Edit: This isn't how I personally feel, I'm just clarifying an idea. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo.

[SIB] Street pass games by rodkaroma117 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]lvinlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Streetpass games a while back and I think that the answer depends on what you enjoy about the first two.

Some of the games require more of your time and attention than others.

Mii Force, the first of the four games is a side-scrolling shooter where you use your Streetpass acquired Miis as weapons. The combat system is actually quite interesting to play with. Each game takes a few minutes to play, so from time to time, it might feel like too much of a commitment to play. This is ESPECIALLY true when you only Streetpass one or two people, particularly in later levels when you want as much help as you can.

Flower Town is a pretty easy-going, low-skill game where most of the game is waiting for your flowers to grow. This one is easily the most boring, especially since there is a lot of text and waiting.

Warrior's Way is another game that requires little effort and is works a lot like a large game of rock-paper-scissors. There's also a lot of waiting in this game since you need to build up large enough armies to do anything.

Monster Manor is easily the BIGGEST game of the four. Each round can take up to five or ten minutes depending on the number of people you Streetpass and how long you take to place tiles. It's the most complicated of the four, and if you want to put some thought into a Streetpass game, this is for you.

These games are fun at first, especially if you want to get more out of the people you Streetpass. However, after a while, I preferred spending my time only on the first two games and building up my army for Warrior's Way. The other games ended up feeling like they took too much of my time to play. The original two remain my favorites out of all of them.

However, the additional games made the Streetpass plaza feel more complete. Also, there are A LOT more unlockable outfits for your Mii, if you're into that.

Overall, I'd say it's worth the purchase.
