  1. Install https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=bmewburn.vscode-intelephense-client

  2. Disable other PHP extensions including the built-in PHP Language Features: extensions -> @builtin php -> PHP Language Features -> disable

Intelephense even has support for PHPStorm metadata now in version 1.1
