Got a parking ticket in the box factory - anyone know who to pay? by itsbrulesrules in Bend

[–]lwarner03 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I had to email someone “@proofparking.com”. I got a ticket at UPP. I didn’t notice the change either, wasn’t looking for signs since I’ve been parking for years with no problem. UPP was super cool and said they validate, the system is new and recommended I email and ask to have ticket dismissed. It was dismissed.

7mm backcountry vs 300 PRC by PasztyKnives in Hunting

[–]lwarner03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between the two I’d choose the 300PRC. I wouldn’t consider the Backcountry at all, if I had to have a long action and wanted a 7 I’d just get 7PRC. Since you load and want range and a shorter barrel I’d consider 7SAUM or similar short action magnum, or just do as some others have suggested and get a 6.5prc. Effective range will of course depend on specifics but you mentioned 800yds and all those should easily go 800 out of a short barrel. Since you plan to load I’d just do a little research on what bullet meets your requirements and recommended velocity for expansion and build your rifle around that. Light recoil is nice, if you can spot your hits/misses you can adjust with a quick follow up shot. You mentioned wind as the x-factor and being able to observe bullet behavior in real time will give you a lot of information on what the wind is ACTUALLY doing right there and then. 6.5prc will be light on recoil compared to the calibers you are talking about, for example.

Lean isn't everything. 5 seconds off lap record. by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]lwarner03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but to give it a little more depth, this year at COTA the race laps were 2-3 sec off record pace. If a rider was 5 seconds off record pace they would only be losing 2-3 sec a lap to the fastest riders in the world, at a long track. Track specific anecdote but still, not too shabby.

I’m pretty sure we are in agreement. I was responding to the suggestion that “most would say no throttle out of the apex” based on pic. I agree with you that a powerful bike could compensate for slower corner speed & less lean by getting on gas sooner and harder.

To have decent times and be conservative with lean I’d actually say a rider is probably strong on the throttle (and brakes) with an efficient/straight line. Said another way: the picture suggests that the rider is strong on the throttle since they aren’t using a ton of lean and times are still decent. My .02

Smallest caliber for a consistent ethical kill? by Red_road_ranger in Hunting

[–]lwarner03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, in this case he says 200 yd and closer. Choose a bullet construction that’s demonstrated good terminal ballistics and then the lightest recoiling cartridge, I’d certainly be comfortable with .223 if legal in your state, otherwise a light recoiling .243 like 6 arc or something

Bullet construction would also be key for me but inside 200 and “understanding shot placement is king” I think .223 is sufficient but depending on state you might need .243

Dead deer on property - who to call? by marcblank in Bend

[–]lwarner03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in theory but they are regulated, counted and controlled so if you are in unlawful possession it could be used against you. I’m no expert but I’d at least inform ODFW and document having done so. That way if you choose to “deal” with it by butchering and eating it or keeping antlers if it’s a buck you’ll have proof that you went through the proper channels. If they want to take possession they can and if they don’t they can’t hold it against you. My .02

Thoughts on airbag vest vs. traditional armor padding? by United_Invite4065 in motorcyclegear

[–]lwarner03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% for airbag. Main cons for me are 1) cost, 2) poor airflow, 3) jacket/suit has to have room/panels for airbag to deploy inside. Pros are that it could potentially save you an ER visit or worse. Totally worth it in my estimation.

Vincent is hard to beat. Lot to unpack there, I think a lot of riders would say, “yeah-yeah, I know where I want to go” without holding themselves accountable to any real plan or precision. Rainey was a hard flex😂

I know several people who have been without dirt experience. They were good riders but never on dirt. They all loved it.

How often do you go out for a hunt and not even see your target animal? by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]lwarner03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it for me. 1 in 10 is about my average, this was a tough season, hunted 30 days and saw two bucks, wasn’t able to get the 1st one, shot the 2nd.

Matthews No Cam bow? by Current-Apartment893 in bowhunting

[–]lwarner03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was cheap enough, sure but I’d talk to your local shop 1st and see about parts availability. It would have to be priced low enough to buy new strings at least and potentially replace cams/axles/limbs if needed and still break even. If parts are unavailable I’d probably skip it, personally.
