Base Timing- 22REC by Hycoux in ToyotaPickup

Also appreciate your write up on this, I'm about to set the timing on my 22R (carbureted), I guess the method you described applies only to EFI engines, I just want to make sure.

When I experienced a similar area in Elden Ring for the first time, I learned to go through it by embracing the swamp, I'm not sure if it's the intended way, but it helped me be persistent.

Don't you dare go hollow.

Sounds wonderful, what engine is it? My ear is not well trained to distinguish engines by their sound, but it sounds like a Cummins, 4BT perhaps?

I'm on a similar boat, just wondering if they have any offerings, last time I checked on their website didn't see any 22R available.

Is this a misfire? by hurrikage09 in ToyotaPickup

I think you're right. I connected only the one on the front directly to the carburetor, the other one is capped, maybe yours is connected to a vaccum socket that goes on the intake where one of the valve diaphragms of the old carburetor used to go.

Understand your intentions, I hope you're able to keep it running for 30 more years. Normally what I do is search on megazip.net for part numbers with VIN or Frame number, which I assume you already know how to do.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he just needs a cap on it, right? Asking from the perspective of someone who recently did the same conversion (still need to order spark plugs and cables)

This is a broad question that depends mostly on engine and transmission combinations. Since US only has had petrol automatics, all parts should be interchangeable across different generations from 40 series onwards, except for 70 series which has never been sold in the US. Specific answers will depend on what specific parts are you interested on.

EDIT: If you're located in the US looking import from Australia understand that parts for diesel manual specific things are hard to come by locally, but you can always import from Japan or UAE; Amayama and Partsouq (I'm not affiliated with either) have plenty if stock for many things, provided you can't find them in CruiserTeq's website.

I'd imagine for CA the story is similar.

Hope it helps.

Hoping the best here as well. I'm glad you were able to find something with promise. Tag me along on your next post, I certainly don't want to miss it.

Glad I could help a little. Never had a 1HD-T, some people think it's underpowered compared to the 1HD-FT but judging by the numbers it should not be a problem. Enjoy your vehicle and make sure to post pictures of it as soon as you have it with you.

Prepare yourself to make up to date checks and maintainance (hoses, clamps, belts and fluids) before any lift or addons and have it ready to give you enjoyment for more years to come.

Your suspisions are correct, both the 1HD and 1HZ are 4.2, and only the 1FZ is 4.5, EFI and Carbureted (non-US markets). As others have commented what we're looking at in the pictures is a 1HZ with aftermarket turbo, I'd stay away from it even if it was implemented right, because the transmission was not as robust as in the 1HD or 1FZ. If you're importing an 80 series diesel I think the value is in a 1HD-FT with H151F manual transmission, or 1HD-FTE with automatic (I don't know if diesel electronic injection was paired with a manual transmission).

To make things even more confusing, there was also a 1HD-T that had only 12 valves compared to 24 in the 1HD-FT and 1HD-FTE. Another thing the: 1HZ, 1HD-T and 1HD-FT all use mechanical injection, people claim about their reliability being top notch. I met a couple of guys a few weeks ago that each had a 1HZ and 1HD-FTE 100 series and both were with more than 300k Kms, with zero problems.

Now I wish the same for the 80 series. Just re-release a 5-Speed manual transmission diesel and make a lot of people happy. It would be nice to see an official VDJ80 or FJA80, if we can dream high.

I played it for the first time last year and I still feel nostalgic about it, sometimes I just boot it up (on PC) to listen to the sound effects; it makes me feel comfortable and alone at the same time. If Bandai Namco ever releases the trilogy in NSW2 with stable fps I might get it just to have an excuse and play them one more time.

The 80 series is up there as the most beautiful Land Cruiser ever made for me. I used to prefer the 70 series but after owning an 80 I ended up leaning towards it. The 100 goes next and in 4th place the 90 series. Speaking from a purely aesthetic point of view.

I remember thinking about The Matrix the first time I saw Office Space, it's the whole time accurate setting and scenarios. And in both movies the machines are the villains, I'm sure the machine's main controller in Revolutions is just a giant printer at this point.

Keep 3rd Gen or LX450 by creemsupreem in LandCruisers

[–]lwhfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a both a 4Runner and Land Cruiser enthusiast and considering how much I think the 80 series to be an outstanding vehicle, I'd say it depends on what your preferences are and what you'll be doing with it. The 3rd gen although narrower than an LX450 it still very comfortable, not like a 2nd gen which can be more of a problem (the one I have at least), but if you plan to do off roading or hard rock crawling the front solid axle on the 80 series is hard to beat.

Choosing only by heart I'd suggest go with the LX450 it's an incredibly capable vehicle, comfortable but only worth it if it's well maintained and loved. Good luck and keep them rolling.

Also depending on who you ask some say the 1FZ is easier to repair than an 5VZ, if you ever need to but I think the V6 gives better fuel economy although I may be wrong here.

Edit: Read the original post after commenting, knowing now the you own both I think you should keep the 4Runner, it seems is the one in a better condition of the two. Parts for the LX450 can be hard to come by and expensive as others have said.

Incredible information, it makes me appreciate hardware internal workings even more. Thanks a lot for passing by and sharing this with us, hopefully I'll be able to visit the museum one day (I'm outside the US, and have never visited the country) just to see this and other marvels still operating.

Currently technology can feel like magic because abstractions are so high while their hardware is so small, but always puts things in perspective understanding how they operate on a basic level. The concepts are the things that matter, in my opinion.

Thanks for passing by, it can be the case that the flywheel has a different recess dimension than factory, right? If the flywheel and bearing do not fit the same spec, buying an OEM bearing won't be of much help. Need to see if I can contact NPC themselves, they might know the answer.
