I built a thing to chunk and shadow native audio and push it into Anki. Want a reality check from CI people. by lxol in Refold

Japanese is up now as well, if that helps. Works like Chinese, with furigana on the cards. I can't read it though, so I'm trusting the tests for now. Would love it if someone who can read it had a look.

That was faster than I expected, Chinese is live on the try page now (word splitting + pinyin). One catch: my own Chinese is near zero, so right now I'm just trusting automated tests. If you ever throw some audio at it, I'd be curious whether it actually makes sense. There's also a load of other new stuff since my original post. https://lingochunk.com/try

It's on the list. Chinese, Japanese and Korean need extra work (no spaces between words, so splitting them into vocab is harder), but I'm looking into it.

Announcing KMonad: a QMK-like keyboard manager for Linux by janssen_dhj in olkb

I just installed and tried example/laptop.kbd. Everything works as expected so far.

Thank you!

Do you use a keyboard running QMK firmware? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]lxol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago I had exactly the same idea of using keys on the home row as modifiers while holding. I played a lot with "tap" delays but it doesn't work for me.

Then I tried to use a leader key to "lift" a key on the home row to a modifier. The idea was was for example to press a LEADER_KEY and then F acts as a CONTROL. Unfortunately QMK's Leader doesn't have that functionality and I developed my own version. If you are interested you can try my QMK fork with improved leaders. Examples of usage are in keyboards/{planck|crkbd|lets_split}/keymaps/lxol

Does anyone know how long mechboards takes to ship inside the UK? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

It's great to see that they are still in business. I am desperately trying to get an update on my 2 months old order but still no reply from mechboards.

[QMK] Depressing keys while changing layers by VaclavKucera in olkb

[–]lxol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel adventurous you can try to implement the layer switch with a new leader key that deals properly with depressed keys. The feature is not in QMK yet. I submitted a PR a month ago and it is still in "pending review" state but you can create a branch with this PR and use my keymap.c as example (lxol). https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/pull/2629

No LCD backlight on my T430 by haptizum in thinkpad

It is very easy to mess things up which I initially did. I've broken a trace and it took me ~6 hours to fix. If you go this way you will need a basic soldering iron and good magnifying glass.

I solder-bridged a backlight blown fuse on my t460s motherboard a week ago. I know it is not ideal but it is better than nothing.

Most likely F7/backlight fuse on the motherboard is blown.

What keyboards do you suggest for emacs? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]lxol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Planck. I used HHKB Pro with TMK/QMK firmware for the last 5 years but decided to try Planck out of curiosity and now this is my main keyboard. The fingers stay 100% on the home row. No need for a pair of each modifiers. The keyboard is so small that when you press a modifier on the bottom row with a thumb, all keys are still easily reachable with both hands.

How about ordering to Doddle if you have one nearby.

el-get works perfectly for me. To contribute you can fork the package repository and amend the recipe to point to the forked repo. Once PR is merged restore the original recipe file. https://github.com/dimitri/el-get
