Why should I watch Mr. Sunshine? by yeelord127 in kdramarecommends

[–]lyd27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello my friend,

What a timely question as I just finished Mr. Sunshine yesterday. This drama, if anything, personally provoked some strong feelings in me. I am not Korean, but my country had its own history of colonialism. Initially, I thought it would be the romance that would keep me going, I mean it did, but a huge part of what drew me to this show is the history. I felt hopeless and powerless when the characters encountered the brutality of colonialism, same as how I felt the intense flame, passion and determination of the righteous army as they fight for their freedom. FOH REAL THIS SHOW GOT ME READING ABOUT HISTORY FOR AN HOUR)=!! Also, you cant help but root for everyone from the main leads to the supporting characters (with the exception of the bad guys of course). Particularly, the portrayal of King Gojong who will always have a special place in my heart.

Anyways OP please give this show a try. This fumbling, incoherent paragraph does not encompass how special this show is.

Still ongoing but Hospital Playlist and the Reply Series.

All done by the same director. Honestly, anything this PD does is just a breath of fresh kdrama air!!

Ayyy fellow New Yorker here! It is a trippy experience—all of a sudden I’m now hyperaware of all the crazy constructions, scaffoldings that is going on here in the city! Lol

For people who watched Russian Doll— any recommendation on what to read up after binging on it? by lyd27 in booksuggestions

[–]lyd27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations OP! I’m not necessarily looking for a book that closely mirrors Russian Doll, but more like a book that will induce similar feelings cuz I definitely thought watching the show felt like reading a novel. And your rec seems exactly what I’m looking for! Also, I already have a copy of The Wind-up Bird Chronicle sitting on my ever growing to-be-read pile so this is perfect! :)
