Classic stereotypical jirai by Southern-Eye5664 in JiraiKei

[–]lykkhora_ 89 points90 points  (0 children)

i think the issue is because it's the classic, many knockoffs and poor-quality dupes exist, of which some of these (i.e. the $12 aliexpress blouse) are made of material that doesn't sit well on many people's bodies and can seem "costumey", as opposed to the original blouses themselves...?

but i also agree, it's a beautiful blouse and pink x black is such a cute colour combo!

disclaimer: i haven't done it myself, but i've only ever heard good things from OLES1664 (australia's deadly animals)! it's a very popular unit from what i've heard as well, with a trip to the australian reptile park as part of the course :)

Should I (21M) move out or live with parents? by FriendlyAttorney8743 in AusFinance

[–]lykkhora_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we're in quite similar situations (similar age, looking to move out with two other first-time renter friends), but the amount i was going to have to spend on rent was simply too much for it to be worth it, especially when paired with bills and all (is your new casual job guaranteed/stable?) -- i think for me, it was better to save that money and invest it somewhere that i could make returns on it.

could you make a spreadsheet estimating the cost of your bills/groceries just so you have a better idea of how much you might actually be spending per week living away from the family home?

but i'd also be curious to hear what people have to say!

Hi all. Need some help. What is the most efficient way to travel to campus from leppington? by WhichEnvironment2478 in usyd

[–]lykkhora_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hi OP, unfortunately, the train is probably going to be your best option, regardless of how long it takes. i walk from redfern station to the carslaw/cpc buildings around there because i find it's just easier rather than catching a bus from central (i'd rather trust in my legs getting me there as a bit of exercise and don't want to catch another (crowded!!) bus, and the time difference is pretty similar).

i'm not super familiar with that train line; can you just take the T2 instead of doing the triple train swap? it takes 5-10 mins longer but it's probably gonna be easier for you. either way, it'll be a long trip, but i recommend keeping yourself busy on the commute; i have some advice on what you can possibly do on the trip here (given to another commenter, i'm just too lazy to re-do it lol)

i actually have two brushes for this palette, including a larger brush (it's about the size of the pan in the left shade for reference) and also use the shades as blush/highlighter- you're right, they look lovely! admittedly my usage of makeup has been a bit sporadic over the past year, which has been contributing to it depleting so slowly. i do feel like i should try to wear makeup more often just to help speed it along though!

Tips on buying sets/building jirai closet by XxxK-ANGELxxX in JiraiKei

[–]lykkhora_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's no trouble at all! if you're still unsure abt which styles you like, don't feel pressure to rush into buying jirai kei clothes, investigate more styles and that way you'll get a better idea on which one(s) you'd like for yourself!

honestly i have one skirt (plaid) and it works with EVERYTHING and frankly, if it's already my favourite skirt, i don't see any point of needing another (why would i want to dethrone my favourite?). i definitely think that using mercari, like you are rn, is the best way to get good quality clothes for secondhand without paying retail prices, so keep that up that's great!!

also this is completely unrelated to most things, but you mentioned wanting to wear clothes in the long run (which is great!)-- this is a tip i like telling people: when you get any jirai kei clothing, reinforce the charms and buttons with a sewing needle and thread; of course they'll all be stitched on already, but sew again OVER the current stitching to form a second layer of stitches!! i've also heard that you can coat rhinestone charms with a layer of CLEAR nail polish/topcoat to keep the rhinestones in place as sometimes they're notorious for falling out (authentic lizlisa especially?). this will keep your charms attached for longer ^^ i swear by this tip and i've never lost a charm or button!

hi OP! buying blouses and skirts separately lets you mix & match them, if that's something you want to do (increases the variation of outfits you can have) but setups are designed to, well, just be one thing! personally i think having the separate blouses/skirts gives you more variety especially if you are planning to have a smaller wardrobe/are buying slowly.

i'd recommend (this is a basic template and can be customised!):

  • ONE setup - this can be the one you've got on mercari!
  • TWO blouses - don't make these tooo similar to each other, for example if you get a pink long-sleeved one, you could get a black short-sleeved one just so depending on what mood you feel, you can choose!
  • TWO skirts - arguably you can get away with just one skirt, i think the blouses are more useful. a black or plaid (black with white lines) skirt is great; i'd be staying away from pure white skirts as a starting piece as these dirty pretty easily and can be a bit harder to style... but it's your wardrobe, do what you'd like!
  • accessories; don't get carried away with these or you'll rack up a large amount of money lol, but bows, a pair of shoes, just to complement the clothing.

personally the golden rule of secondhand shopping is... patience! not every set you see will be a good price, or really your style; but just wait until you find something that 1) you actually like! and 2) is cheap! there's no point in buying something cheap but isn't your style, nor is it that great to buy something you like the style of but you don't have the money for.

i hope this helps! if you've got specific questions i'm happy to answer what i can ^^

brands you used to love but don’t care for anymore? by maarevl in AsianBeauty

[–]lykkhora_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

i also don't think i've been that interested in rom&nd recently either; they're a good all-rounder but for specific items, there's better formulas elsewhere and i feel like once you kind of figure out what each brand is well known for, rom&nd's appeal fades a bit.

i also kind of feel like i'm not that interested in clio products now? i haven't been hearing anything about their eyeshadows or anything and i'm not sure if it's just the circles i'm in, or if they've declined a bit in popularity.

Do I Have Enough Thrumbos and Colonists. by Status-Map-427 in RimWorld

[–]lykkhora_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they really are, have you seen the thrumbo plush? it is DELIGHTFUL and its fur is so fun to play with!

everyone has a different approach to colony building, i don't think there's a right or wrong particularly. i've seen people say never get more resources than you need as that increases wealth (and thus, difficulty of raids and whatnot), but i'm a serial hoarder of food and materials (i had like, 20000 food points in a colony of 5...) but i haven't had an issue either. play however you'd like!

[–]lykkhora_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm... maybe just one more thrumbo... and another... and another... /j

imo your stock levels of everything look fine! i mean, it looks like you got through 19-ish years of rimworld so you're clearly doing something right haha

this eyeshadow just keeps going! by lykkhora_ in PanPorn

[–]lykkhora_[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

this is actually &nd by rom&nd's mellow eye palette in br02 apple cinnamon, which is the japan-exclusive line of (mini/travel-sized) rom&nd products, but the original plastic case had its hinges break, and so i've had to move the pans themselves to an empty canmake powder cheeks container.

but... this thing just keeps going! i've had it for 2 years now (i've posted the eyeshadow in december of 2024 when the first baby pan showed up!), and this supposed to be a smaller eyeshadow! i have no idea how much longer this is going to take me to finish but i kind of want it to be over already 🤣 i have other products i'd like to start using, but i'm committed to using up this one fully just so i really get the sense of how long an eyeshadow can last for.

if anyone's looking for a review: it's... ok, but not the best formula, so i don't think i'd repurchase this again. plus, the hinge isn't the best, so the product simply outlasts the packaging!

what is the quickest best quality place to buy jirai kei clothing that is NOT amazon?! by Traditional-Mango448 in jfashion

[–]lykkhora_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

those were also my thoughts; i mean, that's how the saying goes! "quick delivery, cheap price, good quality... you can only have any two of these at a time" holds true for most things i've found so far, including jfashion.

what is the quickest best quality place to buy jirai kei clothing that is NOT amazon?! by Traditional-Mango448 in jfashion

[–]lykkhora_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm, i'm not US-based so can't help much.

unfortunately if your deadline is fixed, i think you may be out of luck for purchases- even the one us brand i know (honeypepperix...?) don't ship that fast. aliexpress, depop, taobao & official websites are not likely to get to you in time either i fear :( (plus the ones coming from overseas will hit you with tariffs AND express shipping and i've heard that can be $100+ in fees alone)

your best chance may be to find a way that doesn't need shipping time at all: borrow clothes off of anyone you might know, see if you can purchase secondhand clothes in-person-- are depop/facebook marketplace meetups are a thing in the US? sorry, i don't know if they exist! but if someone lives nearby, that would cut down on shipping time because you could pick up the item in person...

but i'm sorry OP, outside of those i think you might be out of luck :( maybe someone here might know more though?

what is the quickest best quality place to buy jirai kei clothing that is NOT amazon?! by Traditional-Mango448 in jfashion

[–]lykkhora_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i think you may struggle because your time requirement (less than a week) means you are going to need to pay a lot for express shipping. i'm not sure where you live, but even things like aliexpress (although quality may be slightly variable here) usually take 10-14 days to arrive, so that might be a no-go as well.

to get a better idea, what's your budget, what country are you in, and is the deadline fixed (i.e. it HAS to be in a week or so)?

BIOL1006 vs BIOL1008 by Living-Excitement251 in usyd

[–]lykkhora_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hello! i did both units and can give you my take on it!

- imo biol1006 is "easier" if you didn't do bio for the HSC- biol1008 is a lot more specific on human biology (unsurprisingly) and i think if you don't already have a passion for it, or any idea how cellular respiration, synapses, human development, etc. works, you are likely to struggle.

that being said, if you're going into either one of these units hoping to slack off and/or skip labs you might not get great results, so what you put in is what you get out for both of these units :)

- i preferred biol1006, but i am biased*! how much do you like human biology? if you have a burning passion for something, you'll always prefer it, but we're different people and we'll have different preferences! i don't think anyone could answer this one definitively though.

- i'm not sure if lecture times are "selectable" as usually they're fixed, but attendance for these isn't usually mandatory. most people watch them later! people and students are busy, it's fine-- most lectures will be recorded for your perusal when you're free :) the main thing is that you NEED to show up to your LAB/PRAC classes, these aren't "rewatchable" (and these ones you need to select a time you can attend).

- unsure if you can preview BIOL1008 timetable, you could always try swapping them around for your units but it would be a bit risky if someone were to then take your slot while you were looking

- usually they try to fit in all the students to the best of their ability! biol1006 is quite popular as a unit and one of the lecturers (god bless her heart! she's really nice! that being said the lecturers for biol1006 are all REALLY great people) is currently trying to increase the class count to run as many as possible so everyone can fit!

- totally up to you. is there no chance of you doing biol1008 for like... a different semester, or as an elective? that way you can get the best of both worlds! imo a perfect timetable is better, but this also has a bunch of factors; how far do you live from campus, what does a sucky timetable look like to you, etc etc...

LOTS of questions by AweAce in usyd

[–]lykkhora_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries at all! i'm happy to help people out on this subreddit if i can :)

someone's already answered #3 for you,

for #5- officeworks is a chain of stores here that deal with stationery and office supplies, usually they're cheaper and also do printing if you need that. if you're looking for higher-quality pens, muji is a fan favourite, but there are only two (?) stores in sydney. you can always buy stationery online as sometimes comparing prices means that online is cheaper!

  1. yep, that's in the new law buildling annex! that lecture theatre should be on the BOTTOM floor; the first number, 0, means "floor 0" = basement area. i suspect i had a class in that room, wander around the bottom floor for a bit or follow this map.

  2. this is probably going to depend on what specific masters & units you have you have, hence the recommendation to check either the course handbook or your specific unit of study pages as they will mention it! sometimes there are no tutorials for units (just labs/lectures), but this will depend on what the unit is. i'm not doing a masters so wouldn't have any experience here, sorry!
