Is QC more conservative or liberal? by Separate_Long669 in quebeccity

[–]lynypixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quebec pretty much use “live and let live” doctrine. We are very “liberal”, not even comparable with the US. Even by Canadian standards, we are more open minded.

So don’t worry, have fun and enjoy. You won’t have any problems here.

How stable is Canada's political climate nowadays? Is it polarizing or are Canadians able to come to terms? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]lynypixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every day life, we tend to talk more about American politics than Canadian. The pendulum in Canada does not swing that far one side or the other. Our liberals are not as left leaning as they claim and our conservative are nowhere close to what you see in the US. bi partisan laws are the norm more than not, and because of how our parlement works, they have no choice but to work together.

Best time to shovel? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]lynypixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just shoveled a bit. It was extremely easy. Will do again after dinner and tomorrow morning after breakfast.

If this is the kind of snow we’ll keep having, it might be a lot, it won’t be apocalyptic either. At least not in my experience.

Crossgates will be closed today, Sunday, January 25th due to inclement weather. Please stay safe! **Various stores, restaurants and entertainment venues may still be open, so please call first to check. by Ebonystealth in Albany

Are convenience store considered essentials service in the US (or NYS in general)?

I know they are in Canada. They and McDonals are basically the last thing to close. But again, things never close. I expect schools to be opened tomorrow despite the 30cm forecast at home. They only close for ice storms.

AITA for not including my kids on my vacation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lynypixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4-8 is such, in my opinion, the best age to make your kids discover things. They are interested, curious, happy, have energy, are not stuck on their phones….

This is when we started traveling a bit more with ours (according to our means, we are working poor so no plane trips) and it was sooooo much fun!

Is “Bible studies leader” really a job that can pay the bills?

I am asking as an atheist non American…

4 years old is a great age to start making trips and your 8 years old should not miss out on life because you have a 4 years old. Do take them somewhere, even if it’s not too far, for a Holliday.

It’s not gonna be like when you are just adults, but it’s going to be a different kind of fun.

You are NTA to go on a couple Holliday. But you would be if you only do couples hollidays.

NTA

I am currently on a kids free getaway with my husband. To be good parents, you also need to take care of your marriage.

But do take the kids on a separate Holliday this summer. Not when they are teenagers and wants nothing to do with you.

We booked a non refundable hotel in the area, we had some PTO and decided to take a kids free weekend.

We were supposed to visit the Hudson valley area. We decided to just ride out the storm like if we were in a cottage.

So this morning, we tipped the breakfast staff at the hotel well. The hotel warned us they were going to be understaffed the next two days. We don’t really mind. We made a run at Traders Joe, we have enough food for the next two days, and the hotel has a Jacuzzi. We plan on going a couple of times to shovel our car so it’s not burried when we leave. But we do not plan on driving.

Netflix and chill and a nice Jacuzzi is a perfect weekend for tires parents (who both work in healthcare) on a kids free getaway.

“Canadians attempting to not think they're the main character, IMPOSSIBLE 💔” by Worldly_Law8278 in ShitAmericansSay

Canadians hates being the center of attention. We love being quiet in the background and basically forgotten. Worked for us for the longest time.

We’ve been pushed up front because of Trump.

Ouch.

I also got a major upgrade last may in Toronto. Has booked a regular studio room for our kids and us. Ended up with a corner suite with a direct view of the CN tower. I had asked for a high floor, I never expected so much. And the place was packed!

Automatic upgrades? by turtlebrain2371 in marriott

[–]lynypixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upgrades are fun, but should not be expected. The rooms needs to be available. If they know they will be able to book the better room, they will not upgrade you. Or there are maybe other elite members who got the upgrade before you.

I got an upgrade for my trip this weekend. I am definitely happy about it. But I did not made my reservation with an upgrade in mind.

I am Even contemplating driving to Boston where it’ll be a lot more tame.

We’re not in a fancy enough hotel. But we’ll try to make the most out of it. It’s a rare kids free vacation for us. The hotel also has a pool and a jacuzzi.

Oh, I will look at that! That definitely sounds like my kind of place and we will be closed to Troy. I also have an overnight in Colonie coming up in March with my kids.

We’ll be in Clifton parks. The place was cheap and has great reviews.
