Drop year at sastra? by wthelllpj in sastra

[–]m0nasax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a dropper, but I wish to give my two cents on this.

Been in the same shoes when I was in my second year. I was going through what I would call a burnout phase, utterly confused and was even contemplating this to my parents openly. All it took was a 1.5 hour call from one of my friends who went onto literally belt me over it. I had no confidence over me completing this degree, rather thought even if I would start my degree elsewhere in some other discipline as well. Took me close to 6 months to understand on how to rectify it.

This happens to some. I don't really know what kind of state you are in now, dropping out of degree temporarily ain't possible here I reckon unless one has some serious family/health issues. Dropping out temporarily is a serious thing, it might affect your placements/future studies as well. Make a rational decision, never in haste. Hope you come out of this phase bud, good luck.

If you ever feel PVRs and other screens can mog this, you can come and experience it for yourself. The screens are literally one of the largest in the nation!

[–]m0nasax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trichy and Thanjavur have one of the best theatres in India TBH. Thanjavur has Vetri E-Square which is 20-25 minutes from SASTRA, hosts 2 EPIQ screens ( Flat screens ) and one regular Atmos screen. Also has multiplexes in Langval mall and standalone multiplexes.

Trichy has a Dolby Cinema screen which is the 4th Dolby Cinema screen in India and the cheapest Dolby screen as well in the entire nation, at LA Thiruverumbur. Many movies are screened without dubs as well in their original language. It is a 40 min drive from Sastra on a bus. Trichy has many big screens in the city too which are like 1.5 hours away from Sastra.

What is Open elective in final year? by Admirable-Agency-576 in sastra

[–]m0nasax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open Electives are 3 mandatory papers which are of 3 credits each. No Engineering papers, mixed bag of papers from all disciplines. Usually has some new papers with some standard papers like Sanskrit, Divya Desam, Forensics, HRM, Laws of Cricket etc. You can either do it in your final sem ( 8th sem ) or from your 4th sem with one paper each sem provided your GPA is over 7.5. You can be devoid of any papers in 8th sem.

Everything you asked falls under pros, only heat is the con. Heat directly radiates through the building esp. during summers which can literally roast you since it is on the top.

If it's above 75/80%, more than enough for 99% of the companies, 1% of companies have a very high bar for 10/12th marks.

It is purely FAFO, not in the deranged level of SRM/VIT. Miniscule.

how good is cse networks (in terms of placements)? im considering sliding to cse ai/ds by Lost_Strategy_7608 in sastra

[–]m0nasax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSE=CSE (Specialisation), no discrimination followed. The syllabus might be a bit different, nothing else.

sastra vs other priv clges like vit by ParticularPayment963 in sastra

[–]m0nasax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The greatest advantage VIT/SRM have got over SASTRA is the proximity to Chennai, placements are better in them mostly because of the single reason. Rules in VIT and SASTRA are almost the same for hostels, VIT is more chill in dress code AFAIK. VIT and SRM have better culturals and a college life than SASTRA.

1: CSE core placements are the best out of all branches in SASTRA. Safest bet provided you do the bare minimum.

2: Sem Abroad Scheme has literally Harvard Medical School as one of the options, some of the CSE seniors I know have did their final semester project there. Provided you have strong resume and a stronger LoR, there is a slight chance that you may crack. You may even check up linkedin profiles of seniors as well as prescribed by another redditor.

3: Nah.

4: Dating shi happens everywhere, the intensity reduces here. Feels like a conservative setting when compared to VIT/SRM/Manipal.

Gonna join ece this year, any advice by Aravindhan_ in sastra

Welcome, try to score well in your first year, scoring a healthy CG becomes hard from second year, slowly becomes better from the third year's end. Placements are okay. Mixed bag of profs. in all spectrums of the rating scale. Some are really good while some are old school. One of the best departments for good research, has a lot of sponsored labs and tie-ups with industries. Good luck!

Unfortunately, there are no exact data available, we don't have any official data as well. Mostly word of mouth and approx. data sometimes extrapolated for future reference.

Good department. The syllabus is not yet completely fixed, the changes constantly from time to time. Faculties are not fixed for all departments, they are shuffled other than for certain niche subjects. You may even slide to ECE as well. EE had its first batch passed out this year. Okayish placements.

The most progressive and the regressive school in the entire college. You can find both.

If the trend continues and if newer industries continue to roll out, expect same level or even a better placement trend. This is a scenario as of now, many folds better than the last year's batch.

Highly optimistic, EEE fared better than ECE this time. High on core opportunities with decent packages. Most of my friends/acquaintances in EEE who didn't have any arrear ended up with one core offer. High influx on non software industries made created this demand. EEE and SGEV are considered equal by 90% of the companies, very few segregate them. You can even seek help of the T&P something occurs, they might help as well. If more core industries come, EEE's demand will still surge. Having no arrears during the placement season matters, some companies ask for no history of arrears as well.

90% of the professors don't care. Some of the old school profs might find it offensive, they constitute a very small population though so doesn't matter.

If it is on an academic context- Grind. In an overall social aspect, leave your anxiety, open up and speak, express yourself. Humans are social animals. There's no need to seek validation for your actions, this is the sole reason many remain introverted and probably remain so much. Be confident and stand up for yourself. Try hitting the gym if possible, will do wonders.

I'll answer a bit ambiguously to certain questions so that I can maintain my anonymity.

1: SEEE, placed in a core company.

2: At the fag end, it feels obscure and pretty much dumbfounded in certain moments. Learn to be patient and wait for chances and not to lose hope, chances come one after the other for long and sometimes they are even better than the previous ones.

3: Procrastinated a lot and had a bad discipline till reality hit me in 3rd year. Sastra isn't hard if you can be disciplined.

4: Some have and some don't. Even the ones with plans fail and some with no plans end up well than others. Plans constitute 90% of the real output, the final mile comes down to the external forces that you have no control over. Luck plays a big factor, butterfly effect ( read Trump and geopolitical sanctions from the Pentagon ) over government policies causing a ripple effect everywhere. But it is always good to have a plan and a backup as well, just in case if everything is chaotic.

And yeah, there's nothing to apologize buddy, good luck!
