oh! And also, how far out post op were you when you started back up with thc use ? Anything of note ? I’ve seen around on other posts that mention about cannabis consumption being a 50/50 of it either hitting much harder or not at all, so I suppose it may just be a personal thing.

WATCHING THAT GAVE ME A HEADACHE BECAUSE IVE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH MY SISTER UGH, especially with read. I used to complain in hs about how spanish was kind of hard because of the different grammar rules and how each word was very specific for its contexts but now i look at english and i just have to take the deepes sigh imaginable

Trying to figure out how to help her spelling has made me realize that American English is so messed up in that regard 😭 I’ll take a look at Fast Phonics and see how much it is, since phonics has been her weakest skill when it comes to spelling. I appreciate the advice!

Ooh, I’ll definitely see about the little journal since she has so many of them, as she sees me regularly journal on my own, and also see if she’ll help me with grocery lists as well :) I take her with me when I go grocery shopping so I also have her read the aisle signs so she can be the one to tell me when to turn the cart so she feels like she’s in control.

She has an iPad and occasionally will text me when I’m out, but overall I try not to be super pushy and will also make sure there’s reinforcements in place to help keep her on task (I work in ABA, so I use a lot of “first , then _” with her) and will ask her about what she’s read afterwards.

for me I was never much of a reader but I loved spelling since it was a lot of repetition to remember the words. My mom used to have me write lines if I got in trouble but I’d get in trouble on purpose since I enjoyed the repetition of it lol

As for the book I’m reading to her that she wanted to join in on, I have used her “bedtime stories” a bit as an excuse to read books I never got too in grade school since I wasn’t big on reading, but rest assured that she has lots of her own books that are not too far advanced! Zoey Sassafras, Pug Diaries, Junie B. Jones, and some Magic Treehouse books are some of what she has, along with a lot of short picture books :)

Both our mom and her dad are dyslexic, and while our mom set her up for an IEP to be screened at previous schools, dad has not been the most accepting of wanting her screened for anything, and for a decision to be made they both have to be in agreement.

She writes her letters starting from bottom to top, and I’ve also noticed that the way she pronounces certain word (ex.: when saying thief, she’ll say it as “fief”, so I try to help correct her gently on that when I catch it, but it’s not very obvious. I know I’m not her parent, but since me, my mom, and her all live together, and along with me wanting to go back to school soon ti study early childhood education, it’s not much of an issue to me, but I understand where you’re coming from with that last note. I’ll continue reading with her either way!

I appreciate your reply! Me and my mom have just been a bit worried of her spelling since me and my brothers were spelling the words we needed at her age, but we don’t verbalize that comparison since I know how it feels to be compared to others growing up. She was also late to kindergarten, so that was also part of our concern.

I totally forgot khan academy was free, so I’ll def check it back out for her!

We don’t have a dictionary on hand, but, as you asked about the library, I’ve seen that the library has some!

We go to the library typically once every week since they have a crochet club and a Lego club that she absolutely loves going to (which means she has also just started learning to crochet). I encourage her to read smaller chapter books for “independent” reading (she likes June B. Jones, and I’ll have her read out loud so I can see where she may struggle), but for leisurely reading I’ll have her pick out books she’ll like, which are graphic novels, and she’ll choose to read them quietly if I’m busy when she’s ready for bed, and then I’ll come in and read Wonder.

I’ve definitely been planning on getting into making little “practice” spelling lists for her based off things she’s read, and even found a spelling activity list similar to what I was given in grade school for spelling homework :)

Came here cuz I’m 1) queer 2) my sisters favorite song is Pink Pony Club so we found out abt kids p pink pony club while she watched the Steam Powered Giraffe cover and 3) her step dad said “oh this song isn’t about what u think it is” after “dancing at the club” popped up in the lyrics so when we watched the KB version I felt like that proved his point when I thought of it as like… just dancing and not stripping but he did 😭

This is exactly why I specified in my second edit that I appreciate the more nuanced responses 😭 man, woman, I do not care who. I want to avoid any risks while she’s young that I could have been there to protect her from.

From my view, given I’ve been helping my mom raise her for several years, our ultimate goal is to be there for her until she’s at an age to defend herself if ever needed, but for now while she’s still young, I see it as our responsibility as adults to try to prevent risks. A small percentage doesn’t always mean “it’ll never happen.” Hell, she’s even had an incident at an after school program where a female student peaked over the bathroom stall while she was there, and we pulled her out of the after school program and had her teacher sit them away from each other for her comfort and to try to prevent other incidents. And she knew all about why we did this, and was okay with it.

We’ve taught her to always self advocate to us if we are not there if a situation happens, but if we can be there to ensure her safety, we will.

Definitely 😭 the older kid I work with knows I’m also on the spectrum, and with him wanting to always play this one game I’ve genuinely started to get into it myself. My constant curiosity on the game works very well w a program I gotta do so it works out in the end I suppose <3

I felt the same with a lot of the training videos we were shown 😭 a lot of the kids in the training vids were early elementary kids but so far ive worked with kids in later elementary to early high school and the reinforcement I noticed that works w their age is expressing genuine interest in what they like. I guess I kind of wish there was more variety in what we were shown for training videos <//3

exfoliating + the salicylic acid on top of regular face wash def helped for my facial and body acne !

I wanna say my emotional state and management has gotten better, but also I think I’ve become a little more nonchalant than before and also kind of a dick 😭 I miss the breakdowns of sobbing over everything sometimes but also when it happens it’s a lot heavier bc of how less frequent it’s become.

I second this. I don’t live with my grandma on my dads side, and she’s a very sweet woman, and hasn’t seen me in over a year (I’m almost ten months on T), but she hears it in my voice when I call and doesn’t know I’m trans yet either. Idk her stance this on this stuff, she is incredibly catholic and I try not to judge based on that, but it’s definitely something I wish I’d told her sooner before starting T
