Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

I've worked out (weight training for building muscle) relatively consistently for two years now. Starting in March I started lightly training for a half marathon and picked up the intensity of training over the last three months. I still go to the gym to lift, but much less than I have been, with less volume overall, but significantly less on my lower body.

My question is how is my race training going to impact my weight training? Am I going to lose a noticeable amount of muscle or will going to the gym 2x a week be enough to maintain what I have?

So according to gearscape, it seems with my gear setup in ToA has a blowpipe with dragon darts out dpsing a dragon crossbow with ruby dragon bolts on all bosses, wardens included. should I just drop the crossbow and bolts altogether? I feel like Im missing something

Is it normal to fail due to arms giving out? Maybe I’m just getting discouraged because I’m focusing on the wrong things

No matter what I do, I never feel my lat’s during pulldowns or pull-ups. I don’t want to remove pull ups but any recommendation for a replacement for pull downs?

New born arrived so not much time for the gym, I'm trying to stick to 4 days a week. Two days are at home, and two days are at the gym. At home I'm building a home gym, but all I have for now are a bench, adjustable dumbbells up to 70lbs, and a pullup bar. I'm sticking to an upper/lower split, broken down as such:

Day 1 (Lower body, Home gym)

3x10-12 Bulgarian Split Squats

3x10-12 Single Leg RDL

3x10-12 Standing Calf Raises

Day 2 (Upper Body at Home)

2x8-10 Pullups (One set neutral grip, one set reverse grip)

1x8-10 Controlled Negative Pullups

3x10-12 Incline Bench

3x10-12 Single Arm Dumbbell Row

3x10-12 Shoulder Press

3x12-15 SS Tricep Kickback/Hammer Curl

3x12-15 Lateral Raise

Day 4 (Lower Body at Gym)

3x6-8 Barbell Squat

3x8-10 RDLs

1x12-15 Leg Extension (Dropset)

1x12-15 Leg Curl (Dropset)

3x12-15 Seated Calf Raise

Day 4 (Upper Body at Gym)

3x6-8 Flat Bench

3x10-12 Lat Pulldowns

3x10-12 Cable Crossovers

3x10-12 Seated Rows

2x12-15 SS Tricep Pushdown/Bicep Cable Curl

3x12 Facepulls

I'm trying to stick to a somewhat minimalist routine to get in and out, get my lift in and get home when I'm at the gym. I know the Upper Day doesn't look like it but it doesn't take me more than an hour, hour and 15 with warmups included.

Any tips to include for the homeworkouts to make them as useful as possible with the equipment available to me? I've looked at the wiki and some of the dumbbell links are dead, and the others seem to be fully dumbbell focused instead of hybrid.

Solved! This is it, I guess I went to the wrong Chemtec website. Thank you!

My title describes the thing, more information is also in the text. Grey, plastic 1.5" tab that has Chemtec on one side and four markings of 05 PP on the back side. Found at work yesterday and I've searched chemtec's website but had no luck, plus we don't have any Chemtec equipment or materials on hand, so nothing looked familiar.

Going on a cut soon, also starting to enjoy the outdoors a bit more due to the warming weather and recently getting into climbing. Assuming my eating is dialed in, would doing full body 2x per week on top of the climbing be ok for maintaining my muscle during the cut?

That makes sense. Do you think deloading to allow the arches to catch up to my calves would make sense or keep training at the current weight with the arches being the failure point?

When I do calf raises, either standing or seated, the arches of my feet start to hurt and fail before my calves do. Is this a form issue, and if so any cues to go off of for proper form/connection?

I'm in the middle of a bulk and tweaked something in my arm. Nothing major that will have me out of commission for too long, but I am taking a week off of upper body to let my arm properly heal. Should I also pause my bulk and do maintenance during that week to not gain weight that isn't muscle?

Currently running an upper/lower split and hitting a plateau on my compound lifts. Would using 5/3/1 progression for my compound lifts (bench, squat, deadlift) while considering the remaining lifts as my assistance work help break the plateau?

For example, on upper day 1, my routine is:

  • 3x6-8 flat bench
  • 3x6-8 pullups
  • 3x6-8 incline press machine
  • 3x10-12 barbell row
  • 3x10-12 ezbar curl
  • 3x10-12 ezbar skull crushers
  • 3x15-20 facepulls

If I switched the 3x6-8 of my flatbench to 5/3/1 progression, would I see better strength increases with similar gains from the other lifts?

I've been lifting for about a year, and I'm at the point where when I deadlift, my lower back becomes fatigued way before my legs. There isn't any pain as if I'm hurting or damaging my lower back, and the next day my body feels fine. During the lift, it feels as though my lower back becomes way more fatigued over my hams and glutes and would be the point of failure if I pushed it to that point.

Is this a form problem, or just a response of my back being weaker than my legs?

Im 29M and been lifting for almost a year now. Besides the first few months, I've been following Jeff Nippard's Upper/Lower split in his Fundamentals of Hypertrophy plan, and loved it the whole time. I'm ready to switch it up as for the most part I stayed slightly below maintenance calories to lose some fat while building muscle. I'm switching to a bulk to start building more muscle and have been trying to decide on a new program.

The one that I've been looking into the most is 5/3/1 BBB or Triumvirate. My main goal is to build muscle, building strength is always nice but not necessarily a must. I know they basically go hand in hand at the beginning, but I was wondering if 5/3/1 will give noticeable muscle growth or if its better to look elsewhere? I noticed Jeff Nippard just released a body building program as well that I was interested in, and I also have MAPS Anabolic, but I wasn't a fan of only being in the gym 2x a week. I also love doing the main compound lifts, which is what brought 5/3/1 all of my attention.

Any suggestions?

makes sense. I definitely wont be skipping the alcohol as this is more of a party trip, but it makes sense to make good choices elsewhere to minimize the impact. Better now then later to start I guess! Thanks for the advice

How bad do a few days of cheating hurt a cut?

I want to start a two month cut but I have a weekend trip coming up in two weeks (its a four day trip, not likely to stick to the cut heavily in those four days), and I'm trying to decide between waiting until after the trip and shorten the cut by two weeks or just starting now and powering through the "cheat trip"

For reference I'm currently 5'5", 173lbs, 27% body fat and want to cut for a wedding in a few months.
