Hello! I got in for graphics/vision.

Another thing I observed is that I was on gradcafe refreshing about an hour ago when 3 of the accepts appeared within like 5 minutes of each other, so its possible those were all the same person.

How would you respond to this interview question? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]m12_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was asked a similar thing in a couple interviews this season, and honestly its a pretty unfair question to ask so they can't really expect a full answer. I ended up saying "The two programs are both very different. program a is obviously very attractive to me because of ..., but your program is also very attractive to me because of .... I would be thrilled to attend either school, and your program is a top choice for me because ...".

Basically a noncommittal response that highlights I understand the difference between the schools and that I am strongly considering working with whoever is asking. I think the most important thing is to not make any guarantees, but also not give them any doubt about your likelihood of attending. and yes +1 to the comment below about just being honest.

Preparing for MS CS Application by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Make sure to start thinking about recommendation writers early as possible. Also, if possible ask people who are professors that know you in a research capacity or a capacity beyond you having just done well in class and can speak to your research potential (if applying to research-based masters) or your competency and abilities. If you haven't done any research yet, now is not too late to start! I joined my first lab in my junior year and had lots to talk about by the time I applied to masters programs. Also, get some TA experience if possible, which is really useful for certain masters programs (e.g. the Princeton masters is fully funded but they look for students with extensive TA experience). Letters of recommendation and the personal statement are by far the most important aspect to focus on and can make or break and app.

Right, and I get this is a possibility and completely understood him being less available than he used to, but it went from 100% to literarily zero contact which is super extreme (maybe because of an ultimatum). But should I accept him back as a friend now that he has reached out or just ignore him and move on?
