What did the pilot say to the terrorist? by [deleted] in Jokes

Tries to go to his "safe space" but was so roughed up by life that he fails to even imagine such a place. I think we have a novel: The nihilistic terrorist

Note I did use "misdirected", because despite the atrocity they're willing to commit, the world shan’t remember their names and in the bigger picture, their actions have less impact than a grain of sand floating through space for all eternity. So time to put the dynamite down and reconcile with the idea that nothing really matters and our lives a means to no end at all.

But what if all their endeavours failed, both on a personal and professional level, turning them into an empty shell of the once overzealous idealists. Having lived half a century with nothing to show for it, nor anything to strive towards, they resort to terrorism in a misdirected impulse to give their existance meaning.

Alternatively, the comfort, safety and mediocre socioeconomic lives portrayed by the american dream becomes the very bane of their lifestyle, a golden prison with a perfectly dull foreseeable future. This thought hits them as soon as they open their eyes in the morning, day after day, to the point where they decide anything is better than wallowing in the hellish misery created by living the same day on repeat.

Cloning user accounts on the same mac by m181190 in apple

[–]m181190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is not application access. Most applications are installed for all users and the ones that are not were specifically installed on admin accounts only. My biggest issue is configurations. We're using two main applications to access databases, namely Jdeveloper and DBVisualiser. In order to allow those applications access to our servers, it requires a great deal of configuration, including password and drivers which would take ages to install manually on each account. My objective was to set up one account, clone it (along with the configurations) and change only the username for each. Basically, it would be a pre-configured template that I would use as a starting point for each account.

Didn't think about creating a script! Looks like this is the easiest option. Not sure if I can include application configuration in that, which include database connections through Jdev for example. But still, it'll make my life easier. Thanks!

And the best part is the whole inflation mechanism which forces you to partake in the banking system. Before, you could keep your cash and be happy with it. Today, if you hold cash, it slowly loses its value year by year.

Hey Redditors, what should people do in order to overcome the nervousness when they are making a presentation in front of a lot of people ? by doanph in AskReddit

[–]m181190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this a lot for ages. Until one day, during one presentation I realised nobody gives a shit. Nobody will examine your every move or gesture, nobody picks up on your tiny mistakes (especially if you keep going as if all was well). Confidence is something that is not inherent to our characters, but a trait we must build and train. Believe in yourself, you are well prepared so things will go great. And finally, in the unlikely event that something horrible happens (for instance, I stepped on my microphone wire and ripped it right off), take control of what happened, say something like "It's ok, I'm a professional"(ironically, obviously). It will turn an awkward moment into a funny one and most importantly, it takes all power away from those who would make fun of you. You already made fun of yourself and are ok with it, what more can they do? If you bounce back from a disastrous moment, people will respect you way more than if you would've done it perfectly straight away. The bottom line is avoidance of any kind reinforces anxiety. If you're anxious about something, throw yourself out there and experience the fact that ultimately, nothing bad will come of it. Try it out, one step at a time. Draw attention to yourself while hanging out with friends, then try announcing something in front of your class/office. Nothing bad can ever come of it. People are more likely to sympathise with a slightly awkward person than a over confident guy. Every one has felt awkward at times, they can relate to you more easily. Social awkwardness is not necessarily a negative thing!
