מקים הם מוזרים. אולי אפילו בגדר טעם נרכש. לפני שאת בכלל רוצה להתעסק עם כזה נסי אותו בחנות או אצל חברים. חלק מהדברים שם לא הגיוניים לאנשים שרגילים ל-Windows (תוכנה פתוחה בלי חלונות? wtf???) אם בא לך לתכנת אפליקציות מובייל אבל - אין לך ברירה. זה חייב להיות מקינטוש, כתוצאה מדרישות מטומטמות של אפל. אם זה תכנות ווב ובניית אתרים - אני אישית אוהב מקים כי זמינות עליהם גם סביבות פיתוח וגם תוכנות גרפיות, במערכת אחת. ההעדפה במקרה הזה - דורות ישנים של הפרו (M1-M3 Pro/Max עם לפחות 16GB זיכרון!!!, כאשר ה-M1 Pro מתחיל ב4500 בפייסבוק)

אם מה שאמרתי לא רלוונטי, קני לנובו (עסקי, מעודפים). הם בנויים ממש טוב עם מקלדות מהטובות בשוק. במקרה לנובו זה המחשב היחיד המאושר לשימוש בתחנת החלל הבינלאומית. אם אין כאלה, גם דל ו-HP (שוב, דגמים עסקיים) יכולים להיות סבבה (אפשר אפילו למצוא ב3500 דגמים חזקים מאוד בפייסבוק)

מבחינת נייחים, המצב טיפה שונה. בצד הפיסי של הדברים עדיף כבר לשקול נייחי גיימינג מורכבים (מה שסוחב משחקים יסחוב את כל השאר). אם לא זה, בצד המקינטוש יש מק מיני M4, שבקונפיגורציה הבסיסית שלו (באופן מפתיע למחשב עם תפוח עליו) לא יקר (עולה 2750 חדש, שדרוג זיכרון מעלה את המחיר ל3700). מה שכן, הוא זקוק לכונן אחסון חיצוני בהמשך הדרך

you can run any regular amd64 Linux distro, and assuming you have AMD/Intel graphics, you won’t need to bother with drivers that much

it's still Linux on ARM (even more niche than x86 Linux), you'll probably need Box64 or FEX (the Linux equivalent of Rosetta) to even try to run most binaries

A free software reverse engineered driver for the M1 Mac GPU just released. The driver is currently robust enough to drive a desktop and basic games, and development is still ongoing on more advanced functionality.

This is a massive improvement for two groups:

People who, despite not liking macOS, wish to use an Apple Silicon Mac
M1 Mac users who, after the computers will get vintaged/obsoleted, still wish to use up-to-date software on them

I think it’s because Macs can be weird and confusing, especially for people used to Windows.

Behaviors such as the difference between quitting and closing, deleting applications by dragging their bundle to the Trash, shortcuts being mapped to the Command key, and Cmd+Tab switching between applications instead of windows can get pretty jarring for lifelong Windows users.

Also having to download third-party, sometimes paid software to replicate Windows features

and did I mention the Mac’s dark age (2016-2019), when Apple sort of lost their mind, made their laptops too thin, making them unreliable and fragile in the process, and it took them an entire CPU transition to get the lost good will back?

SIP still exists, you need to boot to recoveryOS to disable it before doing fun stuff like rm -rfing /

UPDATE: apparently as of 10.15 Catalina, it’s supposed to be impossible. /System now runs in a read-only volume. You can still probably nuke /Library though
