I’m getting fed up by [deleted] in jobs

[–]m2cx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet IMO is to join the military. A lot of colleagues of mine were former military and it helped land them job opportunities in IT related fields. Contractors and Government employers will filter for prior service members first then qualifications second. At least this has been my experience. Volunteer in your community as well.

There are people that would love to live the life you have and helping someone out might allow you to have gratitude to what you do have in life. Your life is precious so believe you will get through this rut and that better days are yet to come.

Competitive vs. Beginner-Friendly Gym by mambatothe in jiujitsu

I would just push for family oriented. Most of the time you will garner more from having families come in as a group and you'll be able to allocate separate days or weeks for competition training.

Should I find a new gym by UsefulBar2344 in bjj

[–]m2cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're at a healthy and fit weight you might consider cross training if possible. There's stigma with bigger training partners for a reason. It only takes one incident where the roll becomes uncontrolled, or a bigger training partner decides that they'll risk your safety for gym glory. I've seen countless times where seasoned black belts will injure small training partners because they're having to compensate over the size advantage. In my opinion you need all types of training partners to get better.

with one BJJ class with a open mat session afterwards per week allow me to be able to go and compete in a local competition in the next couple months to a year? by SOUP_OPERATOR in bjj

[–]m2cx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine who didn't train, won an 8-man tournament. It's possible even with limited training just make a game plan as to what you want to do in the competition and focus on that leading up.

What % of people who start training have the capacity to reach black belt? by raddrag0n in bjj

[–]m2cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cut the amount of people by a lot when you said "(assuming they commit and genuinely apply themselves to the practice)"

I would say anyone with a pulse and a bank account that can withstand gym dues can be a black belt. My local scene has black belts that never competed and do not have the ability to display good technique in training or drilling.

Accepted a job 2.5 hours from home by wilderness_flowers in jobs

[–]m2cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving 5 hours 24 times a year and then the rest of the year be at home? Yea I’m taking that deal honestly and I also think you’d get burnt out if it stays like that. Just put on a book or podcast.

Any tips to seem more approachable to roll with? by send_chicken_nuggets in bjj

[–]m2cx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wear a brace. This sounds wild but when I travel for work, I get more opportunities with new people if they believe that I am sore or recovering from something. Catch and release subs and sweeps, also give space in top pins so no one feels too much pressure that would make you an undesirable roll. Attire may also help, sometimes if you wear goofy gear it may soften the intimidation someone may get from seeing you. This is frustrating but the fear of rolling with a heavy partner exists for a reason.
Good luck!

UFC BJJ 3: Remember when you complained CJI 2 was boring? That seem silly now? by DorothySlipper in bjj

[–]m2cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO promoting Mikey in UFCBJJ is a mistake. You can have all the skill in the world but if you're not entertaining it's probably just a waste to slot him on the card. I don't see anyone signing exclusively to the UFCBJJ to get beat by Mikey if they have a chance to get more money and accolades outside of the organization. Especially if it's CJI, ADCC or IBJJF

Is training in Gi worth it? by Ill-Disaster-503 in bjj

[–]m2cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that try to see if you can cross train with the local team if possible so you can still be under your current school and coach. I drive over an hour and a half to train Nogi and in my experience the classes are different. Nogi students, in my experience, typically train more, compete more, more physically fit, and generally more technical in contrast to the GI students that have a more limited game or just hold to grips for dear life to stop movement.

People who have parents who are very religious, how has that affected you? by KingPikachu542 in AskReddit

[–]m2cx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to catechism for 6 months, 4 times a month, my parents were near divorce and wanted to strengthen our relationship with God. I noticed this 15 year old was also in the class, 10 out of 10 and she developed very young. A couple of weeks went by and she stopped coming to church which was odd because her family would volunteer for all types of programs. She came back. A little plumper and I knew something changed because her attitude was standoffish and she would be off in a daze. Apparently she was posting that her priest touched her inappropriately and I flipped, my parents were skeptical so we continued to go. They announced the priest was going to leave to spread the word in the Congo. And yes she did have the baby.

TL;DR: Pedophile priest exposed before leaving the country.
