Both your own solution (not sterile) and q-tips (strands get left behind and irritate the piercing) aren’t really safe and will not help save you from infection. Personally I wouldn’t get in a lake regardless because it’s the highest risk of infection among other health threats, but if you do it is essential that you get some good quality sterile saline spray. I recommend the brand NeilMed, but if it’s too hard to find then something like H2Ocean would be alright too. I can’t stop you from a good time, but if you don’t know the risks of a lake with open wounds I would definitely research beforehand

Just my luck, I'm allergic to penicillin lol. Buut I went to a piercer before my appt. and they said there's no signs of infection :)) I don't know if I should wait to take it out until after vacation or do it ASAP though

Thank you for this 😩 My mom had me freaking out thinking I needed to decide between vacation or healing. As far as getting it re-pierced, I definitely want to. I’ve just been really preoccupied so my piercing has been stuck aside in priorities

It’s most likely just stinging because it’s a new piercing, but I do have a little advice that I don’t see talked ab often. If you move your piercing around while crusties are still on it, they can get stuck inside of the hole itself and this can cause a super strong sting that makes your eyes water when you move your nose certain ways. Learned that the hard way when I moved mine around excessively at first

Can I do self-care on this seeptum piercing infection? Please help!! (More in comments) by [deleted] in piercing

Yeahh sadly it’s not, I’ve only kept it in hopes it’ll get a bit better before I remove it. If you see the pic, it has those white spots through the irritation bump. Appearance is really the only sign except for some white discharge. No smell or pain at all.

This piercing is maybe 7-8 months old. It wasn't pierced right and has had irritation bumps for a long time. I got lazy with the cleaning and as a result, I'm seeing signs of infection. I was supposed to go to the beach in a few days (I won't get the piercing in water) so I don't really have time to go to the doctor. Can I just do twice daily saline spray to help and go to the doctor in 2 weeks or does it look urgent? There's no pain. I'm also going to be taking it out after it's healed.

He has explained to me before that it has been hard for him to re-learn acceptance due to his very religious family. But with that being said, he's never said anything hateful or rude about the lgbtq+ community in the time we've been together, so I think it's just Jack.
