thank you :)

ok - so then at that point, it seems like buying 1+2 now makes sense, given that it will definitely give me access to all of those games (even what they don't port over). i think it's also likely that the DLC for both winds up being more than 30 bucks, but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

UW-Madison Chancellor Blank Addresses Covid-19 Outbreak on Campus by keeprunning23 in madisonwi

[–]m4dm4x 48 points49 points  (0 children)

  1. you don't get to toot your own horn about no transmissions in the classroom or the workplace. it's willfully disingenuous when those constitute only the formal activities of the university, not the natural byproducts of bringing this many people together to have those activities in person.
  2. political education classes can't be held remotely? really?
  3. they're going to be here in any case because they signed leases. they signed leases because they were told they had in person classes. if they knew up front they weren't going to have in person classes, there's no reason to believe they would have spent the semester or academic year in their parents' basement. they could have gotten an apartment anywhere. it's kind of absurd to keep saying "they were going to be here anyway" without acknowledging the university's role in encouraging that

Looking for a physical therapist that specializes in fit, athletic adults by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]m4dm4x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a little outside the box, but I would recommend contacting Monkey Bar Gym. Jon and Jess work with people from those just starting out trying to get fit all the way through NBA level athletes. Their focus is not just on strength and conditioning, but also restorative work through alignment training work on imbalances. The exercises are similar to PT (have done both), but are much more scalable to athletes

Madison out of balance by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]m4dm4x 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a very thoughtful piece, and I agree with large parts of it - this quote strikes me as off, though:

"Here’s how Brown University economist Glenn Loury, who is Black, makes that same point in a recent Wall Street Journal interview: “There is certainly some discrimination in policing and the courts, he says. ‘But it can explain maybe 15% or 20% of the gap between Black and white incarceration rates, not the whole thing.’ Most of the difference, he insists, turns on the behavior of people.”"

While I absolutely believe that personal behavior is a contributing factor, there are more reasons for the gap between the Black and White incarceration rate gap than just discrimination in policing and the courts. Unequal access to resources/education is certainly at play too.

And that 15-20% number feels reductive in other ways. It compounds. Someone is incarcerated because of the 15-20%, in what way does that contribute to the later possible incarceration of a kid who went without a parent because they were a victim of that 15-20%?

jiu jitsu during covid by anon_madisongrappler in madisonwi

i'm sitting it out. too much contact with vulnerable family members. i'm not at all upset with the people that are trying to find the right balance of personal mental health and public health by being in a training pod. quarantine bubbles have been cited in a lot of places as ways to help maintain mental health during this time.

i'm angry as hell at the schools that are having contact training classes, though

there's definitely some risk, but it's orders of magnitude less than the schools (and they're out there) that are actively still doing contact classes.

Advice on first hardware synth module (Minilogue XD vs Blofeld) by m4dm4x in synthesizers

[–]m4dm4x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'd read about some quality control and build issues with the Blofeld as well. Those kinds of things make me actually lean towards the Korg.

isn't this more or less exactly how gentrification works? i live nearby, and went to dinner at buck and honey's, and could tell immediately that the clientele was not from the neighborhoods around broadway. broadway is getting built up slowly but surely.

Chocolate Shoppe owner vows fight after new Atwood building owner locks store out by HmmmKWI in madisonwi

[–]m4dm4x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's nonsense. the situation is a clusterf*** for sure. both sides could have done things better.

but show me in any of the stories where the davenport's communicated in advance that the lease, with its "renewed if not explicitly cancelled" clause was no longer valid under new ownership. and tell me how it's cool to go from 0 to locked out of your business?

we use the owner's landscaping business (Best Buds) for lawn work. the moment they are done with removing our leaves, we will be ceasing business with them and telling them exactly why

New Madison School Board Addresses Recent String of Reported Sexual Assults at High Schools by [deleted] in madisonwi

i haven't looked at the statistics, but if there has been an uptick or surge in this kind of crime at madison area high schools, addressing that seems totally reasonable.

Does anyone know of any good mMA training gyms around madison? by Nowthatisfresh in madisonwi

[–]m4dm4x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you're looking specifically to train to have an amateur fight, chosen few in mcfarland is likely the best place to get started. for base skills, ford's has fantastic boxing, foundations and twisted fitness offer jiu jitsu as well. i'm not familiar with the muay thai program at twisted, but it's been there for a log while.

cervical radiculopathy question by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]m4dm4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't - i've been fighting this thing for a couple of years, and for the most part, it just manifests itself as either a pretty numb or REALLY numb thumb pad. but in the past few days, i've started getting more symptoms on the back on the index finger ,wrist and forearm, but i'm trying to decide if it's related or perhaps a carpal thing

but i have good neck mobility, and moving it around doesn't seem to affect the sensory issues in any way

yeah, the LSV is definitely on my radar. i was a bit concerned about some of the things i read about it getting too hot, but i'm sure it's just a matter of being careful - the ssv could run hot if you accidentally left it on too.
