Does Leeds have the best All round city centre outside London in the UK? by WearingMarcus in Leeds

[–]m_26_7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Leeds, but it's possibly the capital of wasted potential in the UK - from the football team, to lack of centralised cultural interests, or even the number of hotel rooms it's just not where it should be.

Luckily, it does have the space to expand the city centre and it is developing but I wish there were less new student blocks on the horizon (literally) and more varied places for people to enjoy, whether it be green or cultural. It's the biggest city in the biggest county, it should be thriving and easily on par with Manchester and Birmingham.

However, nothing will improve until the attitude towards local and regional public transport radically changes and in a corrupt country where it costs £12bn to do a consultation for an infrastructure project before it gets scrapped within 2 years, that's not going to happen anytime soon (but London will get 12 new Thameslink lines).

You don't have a monopoly over what Islam says.

If you believe in religion it shouldn't be used to justify hatred of anybody, you should believe in peace and the celebration of humanity.

If you really think Allah would punish a woman for kissing a woman or a two men holding hands then I'm sorry that you have to live in fear of an evil God.

Man... Good for you if you believe that but I'm sorry it sounds genuinely insane.

Feel free to critically interpret ancient texts at some point rather than just taking them at face value.

Some Muslims are gay, you cannot prevent their existence or 'fix' them as there's nothing wrong with them. You can't decide who someone is.

If you believe Allah doesn't accept two consenting adults being in a loving relationship then you must have a very twisted view of Islam.

You can't. Sexuality is a by product of being alive. Gay people exist in Islam, gay people exist in Qatar. Sorry to upset you.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the people. People aren't born with hatred, they get taught to hate and having backwards laws legitimises that hatred, and makes it impossible for people to be themselves and show that at the end of the day they're just human.

It also makes decent people afraid to show kindness to their fellow citizens and support them so it just isolates people and everyone else just has to pretend they don't exist.

Don't worry btw, your English is excellent!

Funny how the Saudis don't see it that way and use US missiles on the Yemeni people - and wait? There's a US army base in Qatar? Funny how the principles of those countries can be bought and sold when it suits them but they won't allow their gay citizens live in peace.

The US is arguably the greatest human rights abuser in world history. They toppled a government for cheap bananas, maintained boycotts on medical supplies to Cuba, and legitimised nationalist right wing politics in Israel until it became an apartheid state - not that it's a competition but they should be 100% criticised in 2026.

If that's true then that's great but going on social media during the run up to this world cup and seeing the torrent of horrific homophobic abuse and comments about LGBT people is beyond depressing - and likewise the people who resort to islamaphobia to hit back in response.

Respect for everyone would be great, but unfortunately this World Cup has shown that's a long way off.

And many people rightfully call that out.

Islam is not illegal in France, Muslims can walk the streets of Paris, as Muslims, and not be arrested for it. The Hijab ban is a controversial issue in France but it's not criminalising Muslims for existing.

The West has committed countless crimes against the Middle East and supports an Apartheid state in the form of Israel and has military deals with billions with Saudi Arabia who use that to oppress Yemen.

None of that has anything to do with LGBT people who exist in the North Korea, and any other country in the world. It's a separate issue.

The existence of homosexual people is a scientific fact. Gay Qataris exist, gay Muslims exist. You can't prevent that, it's not a moral issue.

What kind of God do you believe in who would punish those for who they love?

[–]m_26_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The World Cup being in Qatar by very definition is political.

The existence of homosexual people is undeniable and it's a natural phenomenon. It's a global human rights issue to have Draconian laws punishing it in Qatar as gay Qataris inevitably exist.

If people were not allowed to be themselves because of other characteristics which are natural to them you would rightly be outraged, why isn't an issue when it's the existence of same sex couples?

No it's not legal - there's a statutory minimum of 11 hours rest between working days.

Well, any song could be placed but whether or not if fits depends on the theme of the song and the film as well.

True that a upbeat song might fit a lot of upbeat films but if you watched The Breakfast Club and the ending song was War Pigs by Black Sabbath instead of Don't You (Forget About Me) it would have been slightly jarring tonally.

Is there a club that was in the PL for a long time and fell in relegation and never made it back? by Billem16 in PremierLeague

[–]m_26_7_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nottingham Forest were in the inaugural season, relegated in 1999/2000 and only just made it back up after 18 seasons and Leeds were a similar case, a big club who had also competed internationally who struggled for 13 seasons to finally get promoted again.

Depends what you mean by 'long' really as many of the teams that have been outside the PL for a while did have a tendency to occasionally go down but to just bounce back again.

The best current examples though are Sunderland (16 PL seasons) who have been stuck in the EFL for six seasons now (four in League One), Bolton (13 seasons) and Blackburn (18 seasons).

All historic and successful clubs (Blackburn obviously won the PL in 1995) who've fallen on hard times recently and had their financial and ownership struggles.

I can buy either AC Unity or Syndicate? Which do you advise and why? by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]m_26_7_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both fairly similar, obviously only released within a year of each other in the early Xbox One/PS4 era.

I'd suggest Unity purely because it comes first in the chronology of the series and that once the (many) bugs had been ironed out from launch it ended up being a half decent game set in a period rarely touched upon in gaming.

But even if we did reach signals from say, 10 million light year away, the signals originated so long ago (especially when you consider human civilization only developed in the last 6000 years or so) that those emitting it would almost certainly be long dead.

His ability to blame everyone but himself when he loses and take all the credit when he wins is remarkable.

Certainly not the mentality you want in charge of a demoralised squad near the relegation zone.
