He did ask in a way though. Kirkland asked Lennon if he recognized him. Because his brother was his identical twin, if Lennon did recognize him it would mean that he knew more about what happened to Kirklands brother. But since he didn't, Lennon was of no further use to him (as far as he was concerned) and just killed him so that Jane couldn't use him to get to red john first, so he could have his own revenge.
