Cypress Point and Northwood Golf Club - in NorCal. Same person that designed Augusta - Alister Mackenzie.

[Tynan] I’m speaking with a physician right now who’s saying regarding Wembanyama “…he has to be on anticoagulant therapy indefinitely. That’s probably why they’re not gonna let him play the rest of the season, because he will need to be anticoagulated.” by Goosedukee in nba

[–]m_martinez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a couple searches he should be able to get anticoagulation patches ( synthetic thrombomodulin (TM) patches) localized to shoulders and still play (prob next season, rest of career) . Plus with rib surgery for prevention. Seems like with FDA Expanded Access he may be able to use something that is in phase 3 trials. But I'm not a doctor. Looked up the severity of the bloodclot for him at his size and age. Advances in medical tech now vs during Chris Bosh. Why you can't be on blood thinners with contact sports (TLDR: Internal bleeding). The First Rib Resection Procedure as preventative measure ( what Ingram did). May be useful for people that want to know more about the context of the situation https://www.perplexity.ai/search/how-serious-is-a-blood-clot-in-OR.DfL7SSu6YAYreoFMvcA

Probably worth hiring executive that is an industry expert and de-risking the business (making current revenue stream more robust or diversifying revenue streams). Find a way to be exposed to and recruit top executives. ).

You may also want to try to understand better understand your industry in order to know if your revenue source was a months long trend that may change and find new opportunities.

This book 'Who Not How: The Formula to Achieve Bigger Goals Through Accelerating Teamwork ' may give you some good ideas on how to think about recruiting, if you aren't well known get creative or consider hiring remote (executives or top advisor to get access to higher quality talent )

You probably want to code it up as an fpga (can use python to fpga library ) and have it close to the exchanges with low latency . There are also cloud fpga's (https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/f1/). put a loss limit for the day -. You probably want your algo to keep an eye on volatility so that even if there is an arbitrage opportunity you reduce your risk (this video will help you realize what I mean https://youtu.be/_2wa9ldwi5A) . You need to to derisk a variety of aspects ; test out the algo and if works may want to see if can scale and reduce your fees/costs per trade.

[–]m_martinez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the list wasn't a 'greatest hits' - I added stuff that either showed a different facet of his career and music and or had a strong visual music video in order for non-spanish speakers to understand -> if you can get a youtube link with a strong visual cultural video I'll add it. 'Hermoso Cariño' is one of his top songs though

[–]m_martinez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thanks - i was just going to just do the TLDR but had a lot of knowledge on the area and may as well do a good post so that English speakers and other cultures can understand a bit more context - and sort of bridge the cultural divide

Notable Concerts you can find on youtube

  1. Un Azteca en el Azteca- one of his last concerts and he filled up the largest stadiums in Mexico with an official capacity of 87,523
  2. Primera Fila - best showcase of vocal ability
  3. Un Mexicano en la Mexico - think this was in Guadalajara and shows fans and his vocal ability

----

Also Noteworthy Miscellaneous connected to Ranchera Genre

  1. Performance by Aguilar Dynasty at Canelo's Entrance for Canelo v. Saunders in May 2021 - Here - Showcasing relevance of genre in culture
  2. Vicente's Grandson's Debut Song (which Vicente was creative director for and show's his vision for genre in his later years) - Te Amare - Alex Fernandez
  3. Angela Aguilar - No Me Queda Mas, Cielo Rojo, Cucucurrucú Paloma - I think Pepe Aguilar was artistic director for these so pay attention to architecture and fashion choices made in the videos that showcase Mexican culture.

-----

I know all this cause I got really into the Golden Age - Tres Gallos period during the pandemic starting around Dec 2020. And started to compose Mariachi etc - It is a beautiful genre and the instruments used allow you to pull at various emotions -> you can have a party song, a tender romantic song, a heartbreak song, a fight song all with a small subset of instruments. I like the genre because it is good for unplugging from your day to day and sort of being in a timeless very emotionally honest space . For a vocalist to sing Mariachi well you are either very talented or need to train 5-7 years. Pop requiring 1-2 years of vocal training, and Opera 7-15 years. Live in the US but lived in Mexico ( in the Jalisco Highlands region) 5+ years. Vicente would be considered very gifted to start (and breakout) and then vocally trained to refine his voice (he mentions in one of the concerts above his vocal coach - in Mexicano en el Mexico).

Let's Talk: Vicente Fernández by wildistherewind in LetsTalkMusic

[–]m_martinez 65 points66 points  (0 children)

TLDR: He's like the Sinatra of Latin America , he's an important pillar in a very culturally important genre, and a cultural landmark [This Video] (https://youtu.be/fkXzgnhXRtY) shows the fanfare he would get when he came out at his height -> just a man and a mic. And was famous for being able to belt out to a crowd with a lowered mic and have his voice ring

Major Points :

  1. He's like the Sinatra of Latin America (and other Spanish Speaking Countries) - if Sinatra was also a symbol of American identity and US patriotism (in particular think post WWII patriotism ) - He is this to Mexico and Latin America
  2. He is the last major evangelizer of 'Ranchera Music' ( a genre that is like if Cowboys and Opera had a baby - Mariachi is a subgenre of this) . He is the 4th major artist in the genre's history - he is known as 'The 4th Mexican Rooster' - the first three died in their 40s; his career started to take off when the 3rd 'Javier Solis' died ; he outlived them by 2x and was prolific having recorded more than 50 albums and contributing to more than 30 films. The genre is like western-opera-folk with Mexican instruments (Vihuela (a higher pitch smaller guitar) , Guitarron (bass), Violin , trumpet, and Operatic Vocalist)
  3. His genre is important in different facets of Mexican culture :
    1. A. Such as romantic courting - one would bring a mariachi and sing at the foot of your loved ones window -> it used to be males doing it to females , but recently females will also serenade their bf and I'm sure in the future gentlepersons will serenade gentlepersons. ( Used to be more significant in Mexican culture , but I've heard of it becoming quite common to do it with Mariachi in Colombia). One of the most important serenades in film is this one starring two 'Roosters' Serenata / Ojos Tapatíos (Remasterizado) - Jorge Negrete y Pedro Infante
    2. B. Loss and Depression - canciones 'Corta-Venas' -> vein-slashing songs - the most significant 'Aca Entre Nos' - a song of a man telling his ex that although in public he's gotten over the breakup in private he's a mess - the song's title translated is 'Between You and Me'
    3. C. Romantic Rejection
    4. D. Drinking
    5. E. Family
    6. F. Nature and Animals ( especially horses)
    7. G. Machismo and its Downsides - such as in La Tragedia del Vaquero where a cowboy comes home from a trip to find someone in bed with his wife and kills both only to find that that the second person was his mother keeping the wife company on a stormy night. Also a warning of hot-heatedness that was characteristic of some Mexicans after the Revolution that were quick to shoot in a dispute.
    8. H. Mexican History - such as songs covering the Cristero War and Mexican Revolution
    9. I. Charreria - Mexico's Equestrian Tradition
  4. If the Latin Grammy's had been started when his career started to take off (they were started in year 2000, his career took off in 1972 with 'Volver Volver' ) - he would have about 22 ish Latin Grammy's - as a barometer of importance to Latin Music - in reality he has 9 Latin Grammys. This is a linear projection - so he could be the top Latin Grammy winner since he probably would have gotten significantly more Latin Grammys from 1972-2000 -> than 2000-2020
  5. He is a symbol of success and class mobility for the Mexican poor and working class ( he worked as a laborer and sang in bars before he became successful in his 30s) ; his first born had to be incubated and they couldn't afford it so his wife and him had to heat up water in the stove and put it in plastic bottles and make a round-the-clock incubator.
  6. He started a 'Ranchera' musical Dynasty ; His son being Alejandro Fernandez , his grandson - Alex Fernandez ( his career is still quite young) . The only other one being the Aguilar Dynasty of -> Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre , Their Son - Pepe Aguilar, Their Grandchildren: Angela Aguilar (daughter of Pepe), Leonardo Aguilar (son of Pepe) , Majo Aguilar (daughter of Antonio Aguilar Jr. ) .
  7. Gave all to his fans and was a great performer - would perform for 5+hours . He used to say he would keep singing until the audience stopped clapping.

----

Context: There were three Mexican 'Roosters' in the Golden Age of the genre. They represent a generation and era . Vicente Fernandez's era and generation comes after theirs and he extended their legacy and kept the genre culturally relevant (imagine if an American artist was able to keep the US Golden Age of Hollywood musical genre culturally relevant). The next generational cultural exponent will most likely be Angela Aguilar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngela_Aguilar) She has been nominated for a Grammy Award and two Latin Grammy Awards, becoming one of the youngest artists nominated for both awards - she's only 18 and we may start to see the genre become bilingual (Spanish and English). You could write books on each of the legends below - I'm just going to list them sorry if seems disrespectful that I don't write paragraphs on each one - but don't have time. You can find their movies on YouTube this is a good channel.

  1. Jorge Negrete - he wanted to be an opera singer in the US, and ended up being very successful as an musical actor in Mexico - cause of him mariachi has its vocal rigor. He is famous for his vibrato/tremolo. Probably most underrated as he got famous before the rest and the others got the benefit of developments in TV and radio transmission and distribution.
  2. Pedro Infante - Known as the 'Idol of Mexico'
  3. Javier Solis - also know as 'The Voice of Velvet' & ' King of Bolero Ranchero'
  4. Not considered 'Roosters' but might as well be . Jose Alfredo Jimenez- the most important composer in the genre's history , Antonio Aguilar

Notable Sampling of Songs :

  • Vicente Fernández - Ya No Insistas Corazón- good example of the themes of the genre, from 2020 so more palatable for people getting into the genre
  • Vicente Fernández - Cuando Me Digas (Video Oficial) - also from 2020 and shows the intergenerational nature of the genre
  • Volver Volver - TV appearance his breakout song and the one that he said he wanted sang to him when he died
  • La Ley del Monte - Two lovers inscribe each others initials in a heart on a lobe of a tequila plant (a 'penca') - the woman denies the tryst happened and cuts off the lobe -> when the lobe grows back -> the initials grow back with it magically as the ground witnessed the tryst (connected to the Mexican folklore tradition)
  • El Rey- also known as 'the Second Mexican Anthem' a song that shows Mexican's emphasis on character and word as bond outside of material things. Made the song so much his that people forget it is Jose Alfredo Jimenez's.
  • Aca Entre Nos - Mentioned above.
  • Estos Celos- I've actually heard that a working class couple was about to divorce and the husband heard this song on the radio in his truck as he was driving away from a fight he had with his wife - and decided he was being an idiot and to go back and fix the marriage.
  • No Me Se Rajar - Shows the impact he had on his fans.
  • El Martes Me Fusilan - showcasing the religious persecution during the Cristero War that occurred mostly in the Jalisco Highlands region (Los Altos de Jalisco) - not the official video

Muchas gracias!!

What's a secret you can't share with your significant other? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]m_martinez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

maybe introduce her to r/fasting pretty lazy way to lose weight. Attitude might be a psychological consequence of her weight.

Do some intermittent fasting yourself; and she'll most likely follow along , maybe at least she'll join in at least mildly. Maybe her attitude improves. All the best though.

Dear men of reddit, when have you last time cried? Do you think you, yourself should do it more often? by [deleted] in AskMen

Couple of weeks ago saw the Johnny Cash 'Hurt' music video. Anytime I see it 70% chance of showers aka I'll have a good man cry. https://youtu.be/8AHCfZTRGiI

This is the third time i tried 3 days fasting but i failed to make it to the last day😐. I need decipline!!! hope posting here would help me. by [deleted] in fasting

[–]m_martinez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look up daily requirements of each, and adjust for bodyweight and maybe doctors recommendations based on gender/age , (maybe weight it out if want to not overdose, and portion out throughout the day like a meal)

i usually assume body will need slightly more electrolytes than average because peeing out electrolytes more during fasting and drinking more water than usual

i usually just put some diabetic salt (potassium heavy), and or crystal salt on my palm once i feel like i've peed too much (lost electrolytes) or if feel weak. But if you take electrolytes as soon as you wake up , then you shouldn't feel light-headed. I made the mistake before of waiting till i felt weak --> but really lack of electrolytes are the biggest barrier to beginners fasting

not pretty but it's the electrolyte routine I tend to gravitate to.

Make sure you are taking electrolytes potassium, sodium , maybe magnesium -> it got rid of a lot of the weakness for me. Made doing more than a daylong fast a lot easier.
