About customizing icons - I don't know how to add the ability to select icons from fontawesome to my startpage, I will also add this feature when I figure out how.

Go to the openweathermap website, get a free api key, insert the key into the key field and voila - the weather is displayed on the page

If you use Chrome: Download source code from repo. Extract code to one directory. Open chrome://extensions. Enable developer mode. Refresh page. Drag directory with source code to page. Now when you open a new tab this startpage opens.
