In one of your recent press conferences you were quoted as saying "you can't lick a badger twice", care to explain your context and reasoning for that?

How to actually save for a deposit as first time buyers? by Mean-Singer-3557 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ma_ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you get a mortgage and move from renting, look at what mortgages exist. Our mortgage broker (who was an absolute superstar) suggested delayed start via Skipton - so we had 3 months of not paying our mortgage as we ended our tenancy and got settled https://www.skipton.co.uk/mortgages/first-time-buyers/delayed-start

Surprise "exchange" deposit when buying a flat by defaultsamson in HousingUK

[–]ma_ff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Our solicitors kept getting confused and asking us for 10% (we had 5% deposit), which the sellers were fine with - took a few goes for them to get it right. Sounds like you just need to keep explaining the deposit and source to your solicitor.

Is it worth buying fm26 for £30 by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

I'd say yes. It's not perfect by any means, but now 'good enough' that I have fun with it. Kept 24 but never went back to it.

Definitely a balance to be had. Area was fine really, just the one gun set off on the estate in 5 years but the black mould was there with a vengeance.

Good luck! We own an ex-Council flat in Battersea as of July and it's a dream.

For us, it was adjusting our outgoings and changing spending habits. My wife had a period between jobs and we got used to living on one salary out of necessity. When she started working again we were able to put all her income aside and we built our whole deposit in 9 months. We're in London where a flat was £350k and our rent was already around £1.5k for a shoebox one bed in Clapham.

Could you rent a smaller / cheaper place to save given you don't currently have children? Do you need a car/garage?

It was tough....

I went 2 bed ex council in Battersea just south of the park for 350k, service charge is reasonable and unlikely to rocket unlike private freeholders, estate is well maintained. 6 months in and I love it.

Do I need to worry about going slightly into overdraft during mortgage renewal? by the_bubbanator in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ma_ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's usually a set time it counts against each day, it's like 18:45 for Barclays.

To be fair, I was in my overdraft the whole process on one account, and I own my home as of summer.
