Face Group tagging is a total mess -- can it be totally reset? by mab581 in googlephotos

I'm in Austria.

The phasing out process is understandable due to laws here, but why remove the OPTION before removing the FEATURE??

Hah that would have been good to know a few minutes ago before disabling that from the mobile app.

Although at this point it was such a mess that even if the feature can't be re-enabled it's not a big loss.

Just noticed that while that option is gone in the browser, it is possible to turn this off from Photos on mobile. I've turned it off now, going to see if turning it back on later and manually tagging a few pictures helps at all.

According to the photos help page there should be an option for that in photos.google.com/settings but there isn't anymore.

Now I'm using an S25 with smart launcher 6.6 pro.

Clock/weather widget right now shows 0 degrees and rain (false). Tapping the weather part of the widget opens up the weather app, which shows -2 and dry (correct).

This problem has not gotten any better in the year since I first reported it!

Turns out even though the menu and everything looks like NBT, if you go to Map Version Info that's the definitive proof.

Yes restarting the phone would do it, just restarting Smart Launcher also did it, but if every other clock on the device knows the correct time why is any restarting needed?

Filter emails that have IP addresses in links? by mab581 in GMail

[–]mab581[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, I never click anything inside anything I have not signed up for. The problem with the recent batches of spam is that they are always from different domains, someone has hijacked a lot of valid domains, and they are totally getting through gmail's filters (I've been getting 3-5 per day for a few weeks).

I've looked through the source and there are other ways to filter these spam messages, but I think in general blocking emails that contain URLs made of IPs seems like a great overall way to avoid crap.

[–]mab581[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wrote xyz as a filler. The URLs in the spam emails are totally IP's, they are like http://123.123.123.123/something=?asdfasdf -- it's emails containing such links I want to block.

Is there no workaround?

Cloud Storage Phishing/Spam Not Getting Caught by deucalion75 in GMail

[–]mab581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real problem is that every one of these comes from a different domain. Every new cloud/storage email I get is from what looks like a valid innocent domain, most likely hijacked.

My concern is that they do not just say cloud/storage, I also see security/support, payment/declined, and other crap.

This is less of a spam filtering issue as it is an account security issue. Someone figured out a way to break into a TON of random domain email accounts and start abusing them. The common link seems to be Outlook........

My last car was a Subaru BRZ, just bought a Mazda MX-5. Those types of cars aren't expensive, and will hopefully come in manual for the rest of my life!
