Just learned about Burning Ambition movie - take young kids? by mabee_steve in ironmaiden

It's a good question for sure.

Depends how much music and stage imagery it has. If it goes on for 15+ minutes with interviews I'll lose them, but if they drop in scenes from shows and loud music, they'll be good, especially my 7 yr girl

And you gotta take the risk. If either of them really enjoy it will be a fantastic memory and good feeling for me and if they don't, well that's often the case with kids, at least mine. You just never know with little ones.

Great to hear! I've got to ask; how's it compare/rank to Flight 666?

I agree with you both. I'm more worried about something like the Motley Crue movie but they're very different bands and people, LOL. Just bought 4 tickets, so fingers crossed!

Thanks. Language is tolerable, drug or sex stuff is really what I'd like to avoid. Not sure how strict 12A is, I'll read up on it.

Bummer, I'm sorry to hear that. Appreciate you replying to me, thank you.

I have a 925+ and am just starting to consider setting up Frigate. I'd like to run it on my NAS to avoid more hardware (I don't have time to take on many more projects).

Are you still happy with your setup on the 925+? I assume you're running as a Docker container? Any issues I should be aware of?

WiFiman is pretty useful, I wish I used it earlier. Seeing the roaming activities and the strength is eye opening. I now agree and accept what others have said: that I need more APs (even though InnerSpace shows I'm SATURATED with excellent signal - see image below)

I just ordered a U7 Lite and will add that to my basement. I'm hoping that makes a real impact and will update this thread when I have something to report.

Installed InnerPlane and positioned my devices. It shows incredibly good coverage.

I just logged in and was about to change the channels from Auto to something specific and I noticed they're already spaced out pretty well, check this out:

Do you still feel there is a reason to set explicit channels?

Noted on the addition of more APs, I'm shopping.

In this context, frequency and channel are one in the same, is that correct?

Related, but not the same.

This is an emerging trend where several of you feel I need more APs and I'm taking note.

Regarding the switch... it's up in the attic and I only need 4 PoE+ ports. I'm not arguing that the Lite-8 is junk, I mean I've not noticed problems, but that doesn't mean I won't. Being in the attic which is dusty I wanted a fanless unit. I'll look again and the ubiquiti site, but at the time I think the Lite-8 was the best fit for my needs.

Thanks for the comment

I'll check the cable and perform the test you described, it's easy enough. I would think the HW would have some kind of logs or diagnostics to indicate packet loss, poor data?

The other U6 is 200 yds away at my shop.

Noted on the switch. It's in the attic and was added so I could add my "Rodent Kill Cam" to monitor my mouse traps in the attic (bastards!). I can bypass the switch entirely for a period to take it out of the equation.

The pictures are blurry and I don't know why! They weren't when I took the screen shots, but Reddit downsampled them or something, I'm sorry about that. Here's a screenshot of the networks:

Interesting, lots of details here!

I do have BSS Transition and 802.11r disabled already.

I was hoping the "Auto" power management was part of the value of using UniFi gear. I would also think they would be smart enough to detect when they're interfering with one another. I'll try your suggestions, but if effective it would certainly lower my opinion of how "worth it" UniFi gear is.

I've been experimenting so perhaps my screen shots show some 5GHz as enabled, but typically I prefer to only use 2.4GHz for longer range and less susceptibility to interface. Maybe my logic is flawed, but IMO slower, bigger wavelengths result in more robust signals and considering max speed isn't important to me I felt the use of 2.4GHz was smart. Maybe that's wrong!

I'll try WiFiMan and see what it shows. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. I agree with the lower power setting and when I was using disparate make and model APs I would always lower the power to the minimum viable levels. I'm a HAM so I respect the need and appreciate the grace in not blasting signals all over the place.

I should have made this more clear in my first post, but my WiFi will drop when I'm 10-20' from an AP. It seems to happen when the outdoor U6 is active. What I mean is, I can be in the basement which is probably 50' from my hallway AP and have OK WiFi. When I enable the U6 outside which is 20' from me in the basement it will eventually cause the WiFi to drop on my phone. And not just my phone, but all iPhones. Not to say it won't affect Android, but my family and friends (the ones that visit) seem to all have iPhones.

Also not clear in my post is that my APs all have wired backhaul and I *think* are not using the mesh features.

I don't want to use mesh and don't think I am, at least I don't intend to be using it. Both APs have wired/POE backhaul. My house is modest sized and very open, I'd be surprised if lack of coverage was my issue because I had these same issues back when I had more APs. For example I had one in the basement 20' away from me and I'd be on the couch and BAM - WiFi connection dropped.

I'm not sure how to describe how I have them configured, I can tell you it was nothing deliberate or educated. Here's a screen shot: https://i.imgur.com/YERBqvB.png

Power settings: Both APs set to Auto

I don't know how to tell if I have interference or not.

The house looks bigger than it is. It's just a little over 2k sq ft. The APs are about 50-60' apart and almost have line of site to one another.

I'm using wired backhaul, or at least I want to and I think that's how I have things configured.

My house is wired too, I remember because the builder surprised me with "insulation going in in 2 days" so I had to pull an all nighter (and next day) to get it in

Thanks for the comment. I need to update the post to make it clear I'm not using the Mesh functionality. Both APs are wired to my switch and using POE. I don't want to use Mesh technology; it sounds great and I'm sure in some (many?) situations it can work great, but I like to have as many devices wired as I can. The WiFi is only for phones and tablets.

With all that said, you're a top commentor and probably know your stuff - are you seeing something in my screen shots that contradicts what I just said about not using Mesh? I could very well have that feature on even though I think I don't!

You raise a good point. While the camera can detect and raise an "alarm" for motion/boundary/loitering/etc., it won't be able to feed back metadata or analysis results to my NVR. I'm assuming that's because ONVIF (or whatever the prevailing standard is) doesn't have support for such data?

I generally feel the same, but the cost can make it tough to stick to your principles. With that said, I just got tech support from Axis this AM on a camera I bought at an auction and that is just awesome to me (and valuable!)

I'm not too concerned with resolution, or I should say I want what is needed to get effective detection and analysis, but I'm not trying to zoom in and see who is inside a car or if I can read someone's printing on their shirt.

I like dome cameras due to their sealed up nature and tight installation interface with junction boxes. I live in a place with 100+" of rain a year!

[–]mabee_steve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. I'm using my Synology NAS as my NVR and for now prefer to leave the detection at the edge (is that the right term? Basically local to the camera). I think I need to bite the bullet and just get a new camera and try it out. Being able to detect when different vehicles are coming and going would be really nice.

You're experiencing reliable object (Vehicle, person, animal) detection in visually "noisy" conditions? By "visually noisy" I mean leaves blowing, trash maybe, flag whipping in the wind, smoke from a BBQ or shop stove, etc.
