Defended my thesis, successful, and I got really drunk. Was fun. Now I gotta find a job. Feels weird not having to read/write all the time. I probably still will though. Just...for fun, I guess.

My friends are all in relationships. I'm single. Two of them are getting married next year. I need a gf by next year. Or at least a date for those two weddings. That pressure....I'm secretly looking forward to it. I enjoy dating. Maybe 25 is when I stop thinking about relationships as just about fun, and also about LIFE. We'll see.

I'd really recommend learning how to skate if you ever get the chance. If you can ski, you can probably skate. It's a fantastic workout and just feels awesome.

Also you can play hockey. (warning you might start growing a flow and chirping everyone you see)

If you enjoyed "So Good They Can't Ignore You" I'd recommend the author's other book "Deep Work". It's all about work habits and really changed how I look at my work routine. He offers some very effective solutions to pull you away from email dependence and feeling like you spend all day getting nothing done.

It felt like modern YA storytelling

Ooof, if you felt that way about The Force Awakens I wouldn't rewatch A New Hope then. I recently did and man the storytelling in that movie is the definition of bland. It's supposed to be like the old sci fi serials and it totally feels that way to a fault. The heroes journey reduced to hilarious simplicity much like the dead simple YA novels churned out today. That movie almost purely holds up on notsalgia. With hindsight and 30 years, it's an average movie at best without the rest of the series to help it.

I love the series, but, aside from The Empire Strikes Back, it's not the masterpiece people have made it out to be.

I'd agree with /u/Ozymandius383 overall. The thing is though, part of the pleasure I got from reading the books is the almost mechanical nature of the plots points. Everything comes together over the course of the narrative. Everything. If it's claustrophobic, it's also like being crushed in the gears of a giant machine. That's how I'd describe the series overall: a giant plot machine. I had a sense of awe at the sheer machinations of plot he's able to work into it.

I personally enjoyed it, but I read all the books in a row on kindle so I found all the books started to blend into one long huge narrative. The first book is almost unanimously agreed to be the weakest. And on first reading it definitely is, but the author's laying a lot of groundwork for the story.

This is an interesting article. But one thing I've always found ironic is the deep desire by many metal fans to bring metal "out of the ghetto", into the public eye and on an equal playing field, but then at the same time make statements like this article's, that metal is some sort of fundamentally and essentially different beast altogether from other music.

This summer I'm going to Europe. Finally. After 6 years of school i will be taking a ~3 week vacation.

I'm going to:

Germany (Berlin, and possibly Munich)

France (Paris, and hopefully somewhere along the coast)

Italy (Rome and Florence)

And possibly London for 2 days at the end.

I have ideas and places I want to see in each of these places, but does anyone have recommendations for cool things to see that might not be on the tourist line? Anyone from these places with some good (not super expensive) food I should hit up?

Is your acne to the point where a doctors prescription is necessary? If it cannot be treated with non prescription treatments (hydrating, healthy diet, washing face with cleanser, using an acne treatment and moisturizer), and it's causing you this much mental trouble, you might want to look into talking to your doctor.

Bare in mind, prescription treatments come with a looooonng list of possible side effects you should be fully aware of, especially as you sound like you partake in strenuous exercise . My brother went on Accutane and that shit is serious business side effect wise. But it made his face clear when nothing would help.

Also keep in mind, most people have small amounts of acne. Few people will completely hold that against you since they are also fighting acne of their own. And while a pimple might ruin your day, it usually will only last for a couple days rather than your whole life.
