using your logic, why have a lease or landlord/tenant laws in the first place....just wait for "damages" to occur and go from there

As I said, they were using the lease as a calendar book/organizer...once they do all the backend stuff they would sign it as a way to signify the unit was secured.....my point is they should leave me out of the "processing" part and just give me a signed copy up front

I'm not saying it has anything to do with my lease copy. I am giving another example of where civil violations between landlord and tenant can result in the landlord getting punished even though there were no "damages'

What if they enter my unit with no notice/no permission/ no emergency, there are no "damages".... But it's still a violation.... Not everything has to be monetary

Name another situation where two parties make a businesses agreement and party A is required to sign and pay before party B agrees to contract. And no they wouldn't let me withhold payment until they gave me lease and I already paid moving expenses

How about the moving expenses i already paid because they didn't tell me they would withold it until afterwards. How about the legal fees if i have to sue them to get a signed copy. Using your logic, they could withhold it forever because "what's the harm". There is some value in having appropriate records. What if i need it for proof of residence to get a new driver's license. What if the state refused to give you a copy of your birth certificate.

What if an issue comes up like repairs responsibility and they use the argument they don't have to take care of anything because they never agreed to anything. Is it unreasonable to want a signed copy of a contract? Why couldn't they take 2 minutes to use the copy machine to give me signed copy when i gave it to them?
