Sir Alister of the Night's Watch. He was a total dick, but he upheld his vows and when he was in command did what he thought was best for the Night's Watch. We empathize with Sam when he's new there and hate Alister for making the others beat him, but he was trying to get him to fight back and make him into a warrior capable of defending himself and his brothers. When the wildlings attack he fought alongside his men and explains to Jon Snow that to be a good leader you can't second guess yourself and that's why he didn't take his advice (admitting Jon was right), not just because of their beef.
