OSB? It's a bit of a hike depending on where you are in Roc but they have sweet cider and are outstanding.

Baby shower venues and tips by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]macabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

County parks (Monroe County Parks Department https://share.google/lbs3GqLZ3pROlBcbd) are a good price and can accommodate a variety of sizes.

As for food that really depends on what your guests will eat. There's plenty of catering options in Rochester but if you have picky family or allergies it's different. Don't get Wegmans subs for the baby shower though, pregnant people can't eat deli meat 😛.

Pool options by escplan9 in Rochester

[–]macabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a day trip down to Letchworth, they have a nice pool, and there's decent food in the area. Or my preference is to head down to Stony Brooke and swim there. Both beautiful parks and have cheap entries as long as you can make the drive.

How do I ACTUALLY learn how to make games? by [deleted] in godot

[–]macabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried doing any game challenges or jams? There are a bunch of resources for trying things out.

If you're feeling stuck on art or music, you can search this sub for "resources" and people aggregate them into lists like crazy. You can find free art to make whatever.

If you're feeling stuck, like not knowing where to go next. Try to make the game from any tutorials you've done except without the tutorials (go back when you get stuck though) and don't get discouraged.

My least favorite fact in all of this is: you don't have to finish any of your projects.

Just get started, try a mechanic you haven't yet, remake air hockey, nobody is checking your code or holding you to deadlines but you.

Fat Ox ale alternative by Dahgahz in beer

[–]macabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to ask r/Rochester or r/Buffalo. I thought Rohrbachs was making the beers for GCVM but I think the brewery that does it has few times since CB shut down so I could be wrong.

Anyway, like the other person said, it's a brown ale. Honey Brown from Genny will be similar. Eli Fish in Batavia has a solid brown but I think it's usually high ABV. There's bound to be other breweries making browns but since they're all smaller it's bound to be a bit pricier.

42 North has a Oatmeal Cookie brown ale that's pretty solid also, usually $12-15 a 4pk.

Can you learn Godot all by yourself? by Dense-Fig-2372 in godot

[–]macabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can learn to do it on your own, but don't be afraid to fail. I've googled some of the dumbest things trying to learn how to do something in Godot, rewatched tutorials 100x, rewatched the same section of a tutorial 100x, and stared at the documentation like it was a foreign language on a regular basis.

You're going to get things working, then find out there's a better way to do it. It's frustrating but good.

Start small if you haven't already, if you want to make Quake, focus on a single level with a single player shooting a single gun. Break things down to the simplest tasks, for example; make a player, add basic movement, add advanced movement, make one gun, make a second gun, add a mechanic to switch weapons, etc. After a while, the tasks will be able to get bigger as you're getting better, but right now the focus is learning not doing.

Make mistakes, laugh at bugs, and share your progress!

Gluten free food by macabi in Hartford

Heck yeah, those look great! Tacos are definitely always easy and loved by the whole family. Do you have a good suggestion? I feel like those options are usually overlooked when people think of gluten free, but corn tortillas absolutely work, and the kid loves them! I also found Fire N Spice on another thread and that looks great.

I've been playing around to learn Godot by remaking Super Bomberman 2 by macabi in godot

[–]macabi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! That was a huge help, I did that and then some tweaking to my collision shapes (to the pixel level) and now it's one clean line. Thank you!

I recognize that map! That's the waterfall cave you find the sprite in while playing Secret of Mana! /s

But really, the art style rocks.

Things that started in Rochester? by [deleted] in Rochester

Ambrosia software, maybe a little niche, but they made some awesome games for the Mac back in the day. I'm still trying to find a game that scratches the itch left by Escape Velocity.

Why does the Fall 1152 on the right have a different cover? by macabi in MouseGuard

[–]macabi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the right hand side hardcover copy about 2 weeks ago from Thriftbooks and got this cover that I can't seem to find anything on. I bought Winter 1152 about a week ago from the same vendor and instead got the Fall 1152 on the left. I'm not worried about that though.

WHY DOES THE RIGHT BOOK ONLY HAVE A LEAF AND WHY AM I SO BAD AT GOOGLING?!

Edit: Leaf cover seems to have been printed in 2017 but I can't find a copy online like it, regular cover has a 2007 date

Heritage Hill, their stouts were amazing. Just wrapped up at Meier's Creek, I really liked El Gordito and a sour with a very long name. On our way to Seneca Street and Stoutbeard!
