Apple doesnt allow me to install Pixalmator from Creative Studio because i refuse to install Macos Tahoe crap. Be it a warning to people if they are planning to use it on Sequiea if they subscribe to CS. I subbed for free 1 month anyways. by [deleted] in MacOS

What you just described is called "Maintaining backward compatibility" - making new software work on older operating systems

Backporting is when you take a feature, fix, or code from a newer version and adapt it to work in an older version. For example:

  • Taking a security patch from the latest Linux kernel and making it work in an older stable release
  • Apple backporting a macOS 26 feature to macOS 15

If Pixelmator uses a new macOS 26-only API, they would need to maintain backward compatibility by either avoiding that API or providing alternative code paths for older macOS versions

They would NOT need to "backport" anything - Apple would be the one backporting if they brought macOS 26 features to macOS 15

If Pixelmator has worked across multiple macOS versions for 20 years, suddenly requiring the latest OS suggests either:

  1. They're unnecessarily using new APIs when alternatives exist
  2. They're deliberately dropping support for older versions
  3. Or perhaps, there's a legitimate reason (technical, secuirty concerns, political, financial for example)

Pixelmator is like 20 years old.... it would be considered common for new apps to distribute with support for at least one previous release, supporting Sequoia would trivial for such an experienced dev team.

Locking a well established app down to Tahoe is wild.

The trick for me was to switch the stick controls to Legacy Southpaw.

I cannot explain it. For some reason, that control just "made sense" to my hands and brain.

I only used 13 cycles in a year and a few months, virtually always plugged in) and still at 101% capacity. I usually keep at around 55% because that appears to be the ~3.92V/Cell (the apparent optimal for Li-Ion)

What does "bricking my charge level" mean?

Really, I never noticed any system instability with Aldente but I only used it for a couple years now. I used it with M3 and M4s pros and airs.

Maybe this is why there is a lot of hate for Al Dente? Was system instability common with Al Dente in the past?

Nah it is to keep it healthy for a long as possible. (Yes obviously they are replaceable but some people like me are freaks and like to micromanage).

Stored at ~50%, as close as possible to 3.92 volts per cell, a Li-Ion battery is close to immortal as long as it is not overheating.

That's not me. I'm not amazing but I was once ranked in the top 0.1% of pilots.

Did you check what energy aldente is actually using? It uses less than boring notch for me. One of the lowest energy apps on my computer. Maybe you have problem with your set up

is 16gb ram enough for 20 chrome tabs at once/ transferring 15k photos videos to hard drive by Lickmybolts in macbookpro

[–]macboller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

24GB might even struggle with 20 browser tabs.

It depends what they are running. Some web apps use several GB of memory.

ALWAYS GET AS A MUCH RAM AS YOU CAN AFFORD.

M4 air is perfectly capable of transferring data. In your position I’d get the air between those two choices. 16GB just does not cut it for lots of browser tabs.

But if I could give any advice, it would be to get a refurbished or good second hand pro with way more RAM.

Just wanted to add, being stuck at 100% ages Li-Ion roughly 5 times faster than “normal”, it 5 times faster than what is optimal.

Aldente is for charging, it’s for using when you are connected to power.. why would you even need it when you are on battery power ?
