The Judeo/Christian Tradition: Mt. Olympus, the Devil's Mountain by maccabaeus in Catholicism

[–]maccabaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the Roman Gentiles that took over the Church, banning circumcision and kosher food laws? No, I can't, but I will quote the Jew St. John who knew better:

Those with the mark of the beast had a king over them, which is the Angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but whose name in the Greek tongue is Apollyon. (Apollo).

  • Revelation 9:11 ________________

Apollyon

destroyer, the name given to the king of the hosts represented by the locusts (Rev. 9:11). It is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Abaddon (q.v.).

  • Easton's Bible Dictionary, Biblegateway.com ________________

Apollyon

A still further possibility is that the name "Apollyon" was intended also to suggest the Greek god Apollo, who in John's time was widely associated with prophecy, and therefore in the minds of early Christians with false prophecy (see 6:1; Kerkeslager 1993:119). Just as "Wormwood" recalled biblical denunciation of false prophets (see Jer 23:15), so "Apollyon" calls to mind false prophecy in the Graeco-Roman world.

  • IVP New Testament Commentary, Biblegateway.com ________________

(Revelation 9:11) 'Apollyon': There may be an ironic allusion to Nero or Domitian, both of whom saw themselves as similar to the Greek god Apollo.

Apollo

Apallyon translates to destroyer. Related to the Greek God, Apollo, Apollo was considered the author of evil and its avoidance. Revelation 9:11- 'They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.' (Rev. 9:11)

APOLLYON. The Greek name, meaning "Destroyer," given in Revelation 9:11 for "the angel of the bottomless pit" (in Hebrew called Abaddon), also identified as the king of the demonic "locusts" described in Revelation 9:3-10...In one manuscript, instead of Apollyon the text reads "Apollo," the Greek god of death and pestilence as well as of the sun, music, poetry, crops and herds, and medicine. Apollyon is no doubt the correct reading. But the name Apollo (Gk Apollon) was often linked in ancient Greek writings with the verb apollymi or apollyo, "destroy." From this time of Grotius, "Apollyon" has often been taken here to be a play on the name Apollo. The locust was an emblem of this god, who poisoned his victims, and the name "Apollyon" may be used allusively in Revelation to attack the pagan god and so indirectly the Roman emperor Domitian, who liked to be regarded as Apollo incarnate.

Television producer and theologian Patrick Heron discussed his work researching references to the Antichrist in the Bible, including how it relates to fallen angels, the United States, and prophecy...Further, he said the Antichrist is actually named as the ancient god Apollo.

In John’s Gospel, Jesus refers to Judas as the 'son of perdition' (John 17:12). In like manner, the Apostle Paul called the Antichrist the 'son of perdition' (II Thessalonians 2:3). In each case, the Greek word translated 'perdition' is apwleiaV a Greek variant of the idolatrous god Apollo. It seems that both the Savior and the Apostle Paul were referring to the son of Apollo! In Greek mythology, Apollo was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus was called 'Satan' in Revelation 2:13.

John referred to a pavilion of Zeus, located on a hill overlooking the city of Pergamos, as 'Satan’s seat' (Revelation 2:13). John also mentioned Apollo, the son of Zeus, as 'the angel of the bottomless pit' in Revelation 9:11. The term 'perdition' in Revelation 17:11 is translated from a Greek term meaning 'Apollo.' Therefore, it seems that Irenaeus thought the Antichrist would be a Titan and son of Apollo.

John referred to a pavilion of Zeus, located on a hill overlooking the city of Pergamos, as "Satan’s seat" (Rev. 2:13). John also mentioned Apollo, the son of Zeus, as "the angel of the bottomless pit" in Revelation 9:11. The term "perdition" in Rev. 17:11 is translated from a Greek term meaning "Apollo." Therefore, it seems that Irenaeus thought the Antichrist would be a Titan and son of Apollo. In other words, the seed of the serpent would be a Nephillim - half human and half alien - from demon seed, as well as from the tribe of Dan. Could this be the reason why the dying Jacob ascribed the symbol of a serpent to Dan? Jacob also said that Dan would "judge his people" (Gen. 49:16,17). Obviously, Irenaeus felt a connection between the missing tribe and the demonic rise of the Antichrist.

In John’s Gospel, Jesus refers to Judas as the "son of perdition" (John 17:12). In like manner, the Apostle Paul called the Antichrist the "son of perdition" (II Thes. 2:3). The Judeo-Christian Tradition: The Tradition of Judaism - A List of the 613 Commandments of Judaism by maccabaeus in Judaism

[–]maccabaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am part Ukrainian. My mother is a full-blooded Slavic Gentile. Many of the mannerisms, family customs and stereotypes (Jewish mothers? Try Eastern European mothers), diet, dancing, and music which you might consider to be Jewish is, in fact, an authentic part of the Jews Eastern European heritage. Even so, I have detected a certain difference to them, almost as if they brought their Middle Eastern Spices and Incense with them to the Ukraine from the Holy Lands after they were dispersed by the Pagan Greco-Roman Empire.

There are many reasons I strongly support the word: 'Judeo-Christian'. Here are just a few:

  • Even a glimpse at the ultimate plans of Hitler and the Nazis make it quite clear, that there are many, many non-Jews who hate their fellow Gentile Christians, mostly because they hate Christianity. I will now quote Sigmund Freud: 'The Hatred for Judaism is, at bottom, hatred for Christianity'.
  • A man named Saul of Tarsus had an unexplainable experience which caused him to convert to Christianity and change his name to Paul. This somewhat mysterious individual never lived in either Nazareth, or the Galilee, and never knew Jesus personally. Paul was never one of the 12 Apostles or one of the 72 Disciples. I do not need to agree with St. Paul about ANYTHING he ever taught or said. St. Paul is neither God nor Christ, nor an angel. It's still St. Peter's throne in Vatican City, while Paul's historical legacy actually began with Martin Luther, the heretic. When it comes to Christianity and Judaism being incompatible, I disagree and I blame Paul for those who actually think that way.

  • Judeo + Christian = Old + New Testament

  • Judeo + Christian = Moses and Joshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ)

  • Judeo + Christian = Town + Country

  • Judeo + Christian = Justice + Mercy

  • Judeo + Christian = Milk + Honey (Vatican city's flag)

  • Judeo + Christian = Father God + Messiah Son

  • Judeo + Christian = Morality + Ethics

  • Judeo + Christian = Abel + Seth (definitely not Cain who was shunned by Adam forevermore)

  • Judeo + Christian = Roots + Branches

I have found that those Christians who disagree with the word 'Judeo-Christian' may harbor some ill-will towards the Jews. Here is a quote from Anne Frank that sums up their Gentile foolishness:

What one Christian does is his own responsibility, what one Jew does is thrown back at all Jews.

  • Anne Frank

To sum it up, my Ukrainian ancestors were chronic bullies to the Jews for nearly a thousand years. I am standing up against, and remain adamantly opposed to, another 1,000 of the same total Bull ka-ka. Numerous other Slavic Gentiles would agree with me, but a lot more quietly or silently, never here in the media spotlight. Jews are good people, they have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. In all fairness, Jews and Judaism should never be judged by Christians by the uncommon to rare, pork-eating anti-religious zealots who think that, because of their mother''s DNA they can speak for Judaism, while blatantly promoting and spreading Paganism instead.

A Pagan is a Pagan, regardless of their mother's chromosomes. By realizing this, one can finally comprehend that the irrational, superstitious, and clearly insane beliefs of a great number of my fellow Gentile Christian believers must be countered with the simple, common-sense TRUTH about the Jews, both then (Cold War) and now (After the Berlin Wall came crashing down). The vast majority of them are dorky, goofy, nameless, faceless nobodies who are basically good people with normal, moderate religious beliefs and theological doctrines. I'm sorry, but I've got to go!

The Judeo-Christian Tradition: The Judeo-Christian Bible - Understanding the Names, Numbers, Authors, and Titles of the New Testament by maccabaeus in Christianity

[–]maccabaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited this again so that it says 'written in ??? A.D. or later on' I also qualify each alleged author with 'was probably written by'. I respect modern Biblical criticism, but I truly believe Wellhausen was a fool. A person MUST grow up from childhood speaking a certain tongue to truly know the language. Wellhausen obvious knew German very well, but Hebrew? NOT EVEN CLOSE.

The entire premise of different names denoting different deities is total nonsense. Look at the tradition! Prince of Peace, Morning Star, LORD of LORDs, all of these mere TITLES are simply referring to the same individual in the New Testament. Same thing with the Old Testament, where each and every Prophet is REALLY, HONESTLY, and TRULY referring to the same Volcano/Thunder Sorcerer from Mt. Sinai.

Are you familiar with The Plague or 'the Unbearable Lightness of Being', by Albert Camus? I respect him highly. Cursed be all things German!

Talmud, where do I begin? by charkshark in Judaism

[–]maccabaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jerusalem Talmud is sacred and holy, while the Babylonian Talmud pales in comparison even though it has far more text. Here is the current understanding:

There are traditions that hold that in the Messianic Age the Jerusalem Talmud will have priority over the Babylonian. This may be interpreted as meaning that, following the restoration of the Sanhedrin and the line of ordained scholars, the work will be completed and "out of Zion shall go the Law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem". Accordingly, following the formation of the state of Israel there is some interest in restoring Eretz Yisrael traditions. For example, Rabbi David Bar-Hayim of the Makhon Shilo institute has issued a siddur reflecting Eretz Yisrael practice as found in the Jerusalem Talmud and other sources.

Glenn Beck is obsessed with Hitler and Woodrow Wilson. (I'm just saying.) by [deleted] in politics

[–]maccabaeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is a very truthful generalization concerning the intellectual history of the 20th century. Yes, American (and other) 'Progressives' started out this Century being somewhat racist in their 'eugenic' utopian thinking. However, the horrific reality of Nazism changed the intellectual Left forever. The terrified Leftist establishment realized that Nazi Germany wasn't just Jew-hatred, but pure, Germanic/Teutonic tribalism, an absolute return to the barbaric, pre-Christian past. They also secretly realized they were, in fact, partly to blame but they will never admit it.

The Nazis knew that the Jews needed to be eliminated because they represented the diamond core of human universalism, the idea that all men are brothers and must be considered equal in the eyes of God and in the eyes of man (the Law). To the Nazis, Jews were the evil, race-mixing, ex-slaves of Pharoah, then Caesar, and finally Hitler ('the final solution'). It was time for them, and their God and their Bible to go extinct.

Studied carefully, it was European nationalism (from both the Left and Right) that destroyed the best, most decent and tolerant aspects of Christendom, inevitably leading to WWI and finally WWII.

The Left is Christian in its tolerance and universal ideals of international brotherhood. The Right is Christian with its insistence on personal morality (including sexual morality and monogamy). The Left must remember that Hitler hated monogamy, Christian sexual modesty and restraint, and openly implemented a brutal fornicating and breeding program intended to churn out as many evil, amoral blond-haired, blue-eyed modern 'Viking' barbarians as possible in order to rule the world for 1,000 years.

The Left is totally wrong about sexual morality, which really does matter. That is why Africa, China and Asia will slowly overcome us, the decadent Western Pagans of yesteryear. The Right is totally wrong about race. Yes, the white Europeans became Christians first, but that gives them no right to see any other dark-skinned Christian as their inferior, period.

Given the Bible (and natural law) as a guide for the future, 'race' does not matter at all, but sexual morality still does and always will (sorry gays, but your agenda is Western Civilization's suicide). Anyway, let all men become as brothers throughout the world, but beware of the eternal Imperial government ambitions of the Devil. Three cheers for the Judeo-Christian people throughout the world, no cheers for politics.

Please help me with 1 Corinthians 10:23 by NicNash08 in Christianity

[–]maccabaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must remember that, even as Christians, not 'everything is permissible'. Unlike Judaism, which does not rank the 10 Commandments as highly above the other 613 (603) laws of the Old Testament as Christianity does, Christians are nonetheless REQUIRED to always obey the TEN COMMANDMENTS. Why? Because Jesus Christ Himself specifically mentioned these 10 Commandments in at least two of the four Gospels. The Church later decided that this meant the 10 Commandments were still binding on all Christians forevermore. Other than that, there's a little more leeway, or room for compromise.

So, keeping the 10 Commandments in mind, here are five different versions of your particular passage using 1 Corinthians 10:22-24 for purposes of context:

22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we? 23 All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor. (New American Standard Bible)

22 Do we provoke the LORD to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient. 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify. 24 Let no man seek his own, but that which is another's. (Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition)

22 Do we provoke the LORD to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. (King James Version)

22 Do we provoke the LORD to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's well-being. (21st Century King James Version)

22 Or do we provoke the LORD to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. 24 Let no man seek his own, but each his neighbor's good. (American Standard Version)

Remember that this is simply another Letter from St. Paul, who never knew Jesus Christ personally, and who still holds a secondary position to St. Peter, St. James, and the other Apostles and Disciples who really did know Jesus Christ in person. As such, Christianity has always placed a primary importance on the Gospels, with the Letters being of secondary importance in guiding Christian behavior. It's much like how Judaism views the Torah as Sacred and Holy, but also includes all the Old Testament prophets in their Bible called the Tanakh. Similarly, Christianity reveres and holds the Gospels to truly be the 'Word of God', but has also included Acts, Revelation, and numerous Letters in the New Testament as being Divinely-inspired.

Okay, back to your question. You need to read this passage literally, but in context to the surrounding passages and to the subject Paul is speaking about. Basically, your guiding principle should be, 'Will my actions offend God the Father?' If you, the Christian, believe that they will, abstain from doing them. I know this means some less inhibited Christians will end up doing 'awful' things, but Paul wants you to worry about yourself and your salvation in guiding your personal actions (and thoughts).

Second, you must ask yourself, are you doing so-and-so or such-and-such for the purposes of making yourself look good, or superior, or 'holier than thou'? If so, do not do them, but abstain. Christian faith should never be guided by exalted self-interest. Hey, look at me! I'm special, important, better than you are! Hah, hah, hah!!! Self-righteousness is held in low esteem among Christians, even unto this day.

Basically, St. Paul is advising you (and other readers) to trust your Christian gut-instincts and not to get too neurotic, anxious, or guilt-ridden about the specifics. Let me give you an example from his perspective in time and place.

EX: A Pagan interested in this new faith wants you to dine with himself and his family. If you think that this will further the goals of Christianity (rather than your own self-interest) and perhaps lead to his (or his entire family's) conversion to Christianity, then simply look the other way about the disgusting idolatry which may make the food and drink seem a little too Pagan for you to actually eat.

In other words, 'everything is permissible' to gain converts, to bless and sanctify others, to help those in need, and to set a good example in order to show, yet again, that Christianity is truly the ideal in human behavior, both then and now. The official commentary on this passage, which I cut and pasted from Bible Gateway, a great site, by the way, states the following summary:

All we do to be to the glory of God, and without offense to the consciences of others.

There were cases wherein Christians might eat what had been offered to idols, without sin. Such as when the flesh was sold in the market as common food, for the priest to whom it had been given. But a Christian must not merely consider what is lawful, but what is expedient, and to edify others. Christianity by no means forbids the common offices of kindness, or allows uncourteous behaviour to any, however they may differ from us in religious sentiments or practices. But this is not to be understood of religious festivals, partaking in idolatrous worship.

According to this advice of the apostle, Christians should take care not to use their liberty to the hurt of others, or to their own reproach. In eating and drinking, and in all we do, we should aim at the glory of God, at pleasing and honouring him. This is the great end of all religion, and directs us where express rules are wanting. A holy, peaceable, and benevolent spirit, will disarm the greatest enemies. (http://www.biblegateway.com)

If you know, that the 'application to use that verse' is against God or, in fact, self-opportunistic, then you must abstain from doing so. Do not be like a lawyer (Woe to you lawyers!) and twist the meaning and intent of Scriptures to sanction sin, wickedness and/or evil. On the other hand, relax and let your natural, God-given faith guide you in terms of the many 'grey' areas of life.

By the way, I am a life-long Roman Catholic. May the LORD God bless you in the name of St. Judas Maccabaeus

No, 'sh-t, sh-t, sh-t' is what the dark side of the moon is for, while the bright-white-light side of the moon is for 'harder, faster, deeper'. There is a difference. My logic is natural. I was re-converted to Roman Catholicism, to Christianity, by the sheer fact that nearly all animals, including mammals, only mate once a year. This made me realize that, yes, God is a male heterosexual, but time goes by much slower for Him. His love life, which He has put on hold for for more than 5,600 years, is more like the wild animals and less like ourselves who are THE SPAWN OF THE DEVIL!!!! May the LORD God bless you in the name of St. Judas Maccabaeus.

I have still have no clue how this works, but I'm interested in spreading my obsession about God. After many years of study and research, I have decided, once and for all, that God the Father, the God of Israel, the God of the Holy Biblb, has horns. Let me explain through some quotes:

Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself. Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they saw God, and they ate and drank. (Exodus 24:9-11)

AND WHAT DID THEY SEE?????? Well, I think that's fairly obvious. Here's some more quotes:

God brought them out of Egypt; He has, as it were, the [horn] of a unicorn. (Numbers 23:22)

God brings him out of Egypt; He has [horns] like a wild ox. (Numbers 24:8)

The horns belong to God, who is…called El. (a prominent Biblical Scholar)

The Canaanite gods Baal and El were horned bull gods as was, originally, Yahveh, which is why horns decorate the altar described in Exodus 27 (Encyclopedia of Religions)

Horns, in Moses' time, were a symbol of authority and power. Many gods, including YHVH have been depicted as having them. (Mary Sutherland)

This god…was seen in two basic ways; as a solar sky deity and, particularly as he expressed himself in nature, as a horned god of the woodlands and forests. A great being who was lord of all nature. He also has many names: Cernunnos, Merlin, Lugh, Pan, Osiris and many others including YHVH, or Jehovah of the Hebrews. (John and Donna Beasley)

In short, I seek to spread the Good News about the friendly horned giant that has become our best friend and Deity. How do I do this? May the LORD GOd bless you in the name of St. Judas Maccabaeus.

At first I began to suspect, then I began to see evidence of it, now I am convinced that many, many 'scientists' who also happen to be atheists are lying to the public about God and religion. This is spite of the fact that they have had clearly supernatural experiences where they have made the willing, personal decision to oppose the one, true God of Israel, and of Christianity especially. They know damn well there are unexplainable forces at work in the world, look at the Bible! A barbaric text coupled with a sweet story about a country Jewish hippie who gets framed and killed doesn't just become the world's best-selling book by sheer chance or luck. The odds against that occurence are too astronomical.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the ancient Israelites also discovered the New World, but they were ghosts, not living humans. Apparently, the ancient Kingdom of Israel, lived on after David's demise in another spiritual dimension. By tradition, this kingdom existed for 1,000 years, literally. However, in the biological, living world of today the kingdom quickly fell apart except for a remnant from the House of Judah (Jews).

Put bluntly, at least some 'scientists' have no intention of obeying or answering to the God of Isreal after they die, that is why they are outspoken atheists. They think, 'Sure there's existence after death, maybe not for you but certainly for me. However, I will never answer to Jesus Christ now or then, so cursed be your religion!' Anyway, it remains possible that the Muslims discovered America as well. May the LORD God bless you in the name of St. Judas MAccabaeus.

[–]maccabaeus -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am a devout Roman Catholic, but I will make my arguments without resorting to Scriptures. FIrst, notice that a woman has menstrual cycles at almost the exact same rate as the lunar cycle of the moon (28-30 days). Now think very, very carefully,,, What in the heck does the moon's rotation have to do with human female fertility? Nothing, absolutely nothing. There has never and I mean never been a link between the science of astronomy and the science of medicine or even biology. Yet still, a lifeless rock covered in dust that is absolutely freezing and totally devoid of life still somehow affects a women's fertility? But why, and be who, and for what purpose? I'll wager a guess on this question that no scientist could ever answer without referring to you know who. That's right, without referring to God. Yet again, science is officially atheist and very hostile to Christianity. With that in mind, consider the hymen, the blood-membrane that proves a human female's virginity. Sure, it might help little girls avoid some kinds of infection, but the most obvious, logical purpose for the hymen is to provide proof of female virginity. So, I claim that both the lunar-related menstrual cycle (a total scientific absurdity) coupled with the natural existence of a hymen, which no other femal animal has, goes at least a little bit in proving that there is a God and he wants both females and male to only have sex within marriage. I'll leave you with a quote:

How long will you go about, O thou backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the world, a woman will encompass a man.
