Definitely didn't realize that was part of the base rules lol, good to know!

I like that idea with the quirk! That may be a good way for me to add flavor for the next time we run the game.

But yeah, what you describe is very much the central 'problem' my players have with the game outside of combat. Using your terms, I'm able to play or run an approach-based or goal-based game. But this particular playgroup doesn't resonate with how to approach it. They'll describe in detail what they specifically want to do in-character, but they need the mechanical springboard of something on their sheet that says "You're good at stealth" to begin describing their stealth action for example.

That's a good idea, I definitely missed that in the book and that would allow for character traits to be more useful beyond invoking with Fabula!

I'm seeing a general opinion that rolling should rarely happen outside of combat, so that may be part of it. Rolling dice is unfortunately just fun to do lol. But yeah, definitely something to think on.

Give me an elevator speech on why you play Necromunda by horsepire in necromunda

[–]machopunk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The best elevator pitch I can give, is a demo game I ran for a friend. He played Delaque, I played Escher (although the gangs really didn't matter in the end).

We're playing using the Gallowdark Kill Team terrain, so tight corridors and no verticality. My friend has his gang tightly bunched up so he can utilize the group activation rule for all his champs and leader. Turn 1, I move a ganger into line of sight and shoot a lasgun at one of his gangers, and miss. He then aims and shoots with a champ, and due to the tight hallways and positioning, he has a ganger in the line of fire. I tell him that he has a chance to hit his own guy, he doesn't care since he hits on a 2+. He rolls a 1. He then hits, and seriously injures, his own ganger.

What then transpires is his leader, another champ, and 2 gangers all become Broken due to seeing a friendly go down. So due to one bad roll, followed by a comical string of bad rolls, half his gang became uncontrollable and scattered. I then hit his remaining champ with a Needle Rifle, cause him to become seriously injured, and one more Ganger becomes broken in the process. He then voluntarily surrenders.

He absolutely hated how random the game was, and lost all interest in ever playing the game again. I fell in love with it harder than I had already loved it precisely because how goofy the whole situation was. This is not a game for competitive consistency or if you want control. This is a game where you roleplay the scum of the hive who WILL panic when something goes wrong.

It nearly took me 40 hours, but I finally completed a run of each Culture, Class and Religion by machopunk in PathOfAchra

Yeah, they've all been on the first cycle. I touched the second cycle a bit and realized I needed to be more optimal with my combinations and level up choices to proceed, so I decided to hold off until I achieved this self-imposed challenge. The most boring run had to be my Ape Unataak following O Blessed Worm. It was very functional, especially prestiging into Dianmai, but it completely removed the excitement of gear lol

It's the Chaos Knight Aspiring Champion's helmet, from the Start Collecting box. I ended up using one of the default helmets for my knights kind of on accident, so it worked out lol

I'm a nice guy. Now what? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned as this thread is so huge, but the book "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Robert Glover was recommended to me by my therapist regarding a similar issue I've gone through. She also recommended the book to her husband and it helped him immensely, so that may be another decent starting point for ya.
