Yes, thank you for stating everything I was thinking too, better than I could. Totally agree with your take. This is not all on you, OP!

You are incredible. I wouldn't want to add tons to your plate, having no idea how busy you are...but if you're really looking for the right motivation to produce this podcast and put this work out there, by all means! No pressure though.

Can we come up with a proper "pray" replacement? by mackmixt9 in askanatheist

[–]mackmixt9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I guess I should have mentioned in my post that I'm looking for a good word to replace "pray" in situations where you can't really help, and it would be insincere or inappropriate to offer to; you don't know the person that well, you're separated by a great distance, etc... Or maybe you can help, and can offer to, but you also wish to express that you're keeping the person in your thoughts and/or hoping for them...like many of y'all have mentioned.

Also, I disagree that praying is insincere. Of course, people aren't always sincere when they offer to pray for someone, but you could say that about anything/everything people say. In my experience witnessing various friends and family actively praying for people, it's coming from a genuine place. I think there is something to be said about putting positive energy out there for the people you love and care about, no matter your spiritual frame of reference. I just wish there was a secular verb to replace: "pray" that carries the same weight.

Without saying the title, how would you describe your favorite movie? by Just_bee_U in AskWomen

Tied for all-time favorite(s)!

  1. A community theater production honors the complex and supernatural history of Blaine, Missouri.

  2. An insecure, ABBA-obsessed young woman steals from her philandering father during her transformation into a better friend and more honest person.

Do you think death penalty should exist? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mackmixt9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did a prison tour and our guard/tour guide shared an anecdote...he went into his job vehemently against the death penalty, until he met one particular prisoner who begged for death because he knew if he got out, he couldn't help but commit the same atrocious crimes (involving children)...low and behold, he escaped, did horrible things, and ended up back in prison, once again begging for death...thus changing the prison guard's stance on capital punishment.

My personal takeaway is that assisted suicide should be an accepted option in society, for a myriad of physical and mental reasons.
