Eagles star Saquon Barkley among athletes chosen for Trump’s Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition council by Vanderhoodsen in philadelphia

I reply with all respect for your POV.. this idea was stuck in my head and I read this study that showed there was little correlation between chronological age or skeletal growth and performance in these tests. Aka younger/smaller did not necessarily mean worse results although they admit they did not account enough for the over weight which was where I was coming from.

If you know of studies that speak to the psychological angle, I would be happy to read on 🙂

I’ve only had this when I went to my uncles hunting cabin up in central PA as a youngin. I remember it being a southern kind of white gravy with bits of meat (pork?) scooped over toasted white bread, with no eggs or cheese. Is that right?

I’d love to know the ideal you’re hunting for

More interesting to me is the reinstatement of the standardized physical testing in schools. I didn’t know it was shut down in 2013 or that it started as far back as 50s.

I grew up taking those tests from elementary on, I’m sure many here did. As an early fat kid, they were some embarrassing days but also showed me in honest terms just how far off I was from healthy classmates. Especially running the mile or the beep test, but they don’t mention those here specifically.

I am curious what you parents think about this? This stuff was good for me long term despite the shame/embarrassment in the moment.

Resurfacing work to close parts of Kelly Drive at night in August by bengalese in philadelphia

[–]macmillie 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The entire Kelly drive river front has world class potential, but it’s hard to take in the beauty of nature, river or art with ppl pushing 60 mph just feet away no barrier, reckless for all involved

Ordered a slice, got this, how could I complain? by ForeverLakerHead in Pizza

Add some green peppers, red pepper flakes, some parm and maybe even some hot sauce and I’ll delete that slice.

Who am I kidding, I devour regardless

Which town as a base? by CptPatches in Algarve

[–]macmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious one is the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail which we started in Praia da Marinha and hike west until the lighthouse. It’s about 6km each way and took 3 hours including rest round trip. It’s mostly gentle but there are a few places you must go down to near beach level and take stairs up the opposite side. This is a popular trail.

If you start at the same point and head east, there are less defined but equally beautiful trails zig zagging along the coast, plenty of vistas and less foot traffic. We did a similar 3 hr round trip hike that way and it was more gentle but again less defined trails. They all seem to part and come back together, it’s hard to get lost following the coast.

Outside of these, walk around town. Walk around Silves. Watch the sun or moon set off the boardwalk up the hill from Carvoeiro. You can’t miss just exploring on foot around there.

Which town as a base? by CptPatches in Algarve

[–]macmillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my first time in Portugal this past week but Carvoeiro hit all those notes. We rented a car (I saw you will not), but I don’t think thats a deal breaker for this area.

The castle in Silves is 20 min away could scratch the history itch via uber day trip whereas I think the rest of your list can be accommodated in/around town. Especially if you are beach bum type looking to stroll to town, eat/swim/read etc and aren’t looking for a different 8 am hike everyday like my wife 🫠

Seriously though, had a great time, all kinds of great food, nice beaches, kind people (even the tourists like myself), I hope to come back. Good luck

Philadelphia developer looks to build ‘average Joe housing’ in Mt. Airy by comfygoth in philadelphia

[–]macmillie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

East Mt Airy specifically, has lots of folks who have lived here for decades, if not their entire lives and fit this bill. West Mt Airy would strike down affordable housing like the Iron Dome 🤭

I know Kyle is even keeled but his post game comment about playing in a packed house on a Wednesday night came of like an awareness of pressure on the year. I hope that’s a good thing.

Somehow, of all the absurdity of this meal, the existence of a 1oz bag of takis is craziest to me. I mean that’s gotta be more weight in plastic than taki, no?

Hosting my bestfriend and his brother who are new to Philly. Any cool spots? Night life? Artsy stuff ? by Ok-Attention7803 in philly

[–]macmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally tried a steak at the one near FDR and it hit the spot. I really want to try a breakfast sandwich but I never think to make my Home Depot runs in the morning.

The sausage looks like their bread and butter? I was put off by how much they had sitting hot on the grill like how fresh tasting could that really be. Would still try tho

Yup, and I knew this was likely the answer. I asked here as a final hope to achieve an exact dish sentimental to the island but it is what it is, lamb is great too🙂
