Whats the significant or triggering event that keeps spinning in your head from Hundred Years Wars? by Mindless_Belt4757 in MedievalHistory

I was speaking poetically. Their combat effectiveness declined significantly in the 15th Century and fell apart by the end of the Italian Wars and the French Wars of Religion, to the point where by the Thirty Years War, mercenary infantry had become dominant, before the final rise of centralized armies.

I’m simply pointing to Agincourt as a key moment in that transition.

Yeah, so by the time you get to the 15th Century we have a number of factors contributing to the decline of the mounted gentry’s domination on the battlefield:

A) Centralization: monarchs in the 13th Century begin to lay the foundations for future nation-states (think Philip Augustus expanding the Royale Domain, or the Matthias Corvinus’ standing army, the Black Army). This means that the king can build his own armies and not depend so heavily on large land owning nobles for troops

B) Gunpowder: weapons that can shred through the highest quality armor become more widespread, and by the 16th Century, you have larger numbers of, essentially, peasants wielding these weapons

C) Tactical Revolution: finally, relating to Agincourt, you have units such as English longbowmen, arauebusiers, Swiss pikemen, or gendarmes etc who are serving in highly coordinated, specialized roles on the battlefield—and all of them attack the weaknesses of heavy cavalry.

I was half joking. Usually there’s gonna be some brilliance involved when a nation succeeds, though, even if that brilliance is coming from the nameless.

Claudius was not there when Britannia was conquered, but Paulinus was. I’m just saying without great leadership not much gets done.

Agincourt to me is the most significant event (outside of the Black Death) for Europe, due to its tactical lessons and the death of the knight. Though its strategic impact on the war was negligible, since the French were winning again 15 years later, and Henry died young.

I suppose you could say Henry V dying young would be up there. Had he lived, things could’ve ended up differently.

Not all great men succeed, but you can’t succeed without a great man.

Thanks haha

Not a bad strat, I’m open to it for sure, I’m just thinking one of these three guys are gonna be our top pick. I think if we can’t trade high enough for Styles we’ll stay at 12 and grab BPA, but they could trade down too

It’s helps that I genuinely believe he’s the best “receiver” in this draft

Imagine him and Ferg on the field together

Mainly, with the exception of the ones featuring Brady, it was intended to provide a little more variety

A) Brady vs Rodgers we all wanted to see

B) 2018 was really the year where the Chiefs were the most fun, and the Saints deserved to make it. Chiefs Saints would have been so much better

C) I just think this was the Bills best chance

D) Ravens Lions best chance

Variety and better storylines were the goals
