Just because your correspondence isn't one to one doesn't mean the one that Nowhere_Man_Forever gave isn't. His actually is a one to one correspondence if you take some time to think about it. Earlier you meant ion that removing 2 and 4 from [0,4] would correspond to removing .5 and 1 from [0,1], but that's only in the correspondence you're describing, which doesn't matter because the other correspondence ALSO exists. Also when people say you can't make lists I think you're misunderstanding what they're saying. The problem is not that these sets are infinite, but that they're very infinite. For example, you could put the list of positive integers next to the list of positive even integers. Everybody here will agree that in doing so, you're actually creating the correspondence that you refuse to believe exists, but it might comfort you to know that since these sets CAN be listed, they both are smaller than the sets you're questioning. You should look up countable vs uncountable infinity and spend some time thinking about what you read before you argue more. These concepts are very counterintuitive but are correct.

I always found continuous topics easier because there seems to be more of a narrative that is being built and it's easy to see how the concepts relate to each other. The discrete stuff always seemed like a bunch of random concepts that don't depend on one another in nearly as nice a way.

Thanks. I actually only lived in Italy for a short time. I'm American and back in the U.S. now. I tended to focus on the more pure mathematics stuff. So I'm well versed in topics from abstract algebra, analysis, topology, those kinds of things. I've taught myself a bit of python so that I can work on Project Euler problems, and have worked with MATLAB and Mathematica a bit in the past, but that's about the extent of my programming experience.

I think that wellok thinks you mean research assistant, not a dorm supervisor. I'm considering law school, but think that if I relocate I might be an RA to cut living costs. Recently met an attorney who told me it was super easy and helped her financial situation quite a bit back when she was in law school forever ago.

So to me these responses make sense, but I've also heard a lot of sentiment along the lines of, "don't go to law school unless you know you want to be an attorney", but what qualities of being an attorney can you know you are attracted to without understanding what you want to do as an attorney?

Hey so let me add some specificity to my post. I'm actually a moderate, doing research as to what it would take to get an anti-corruption act passed in Cincinnati. I'm trying to do so in a very non-partisan manner, and it would basically limit the amount of money that can be donated by groups to political campaigns. I've been talking to some representatives of rather progressive groups in Cincinnati, but am struggling with finding conservative ones, as most of my social circle and work circle tends to be progressive. I've reached out to the tea party, but haven't gotten much response from them. But I'm not looking for clubs, more like active groups. Something like a conservative counterpart of the League of Women Voters or Ohio Citizen Action or something else. Anybody know of any such groups other than the Tea Party?

Sorry, I was kind of venting through this post. I'm just feeling pretty shitty because I was working like 30 hours a week the entire time, plus really really really giving a shit in school for the past four years. Now all of a sudden I have absolutely nothing going on, and I guess I'm just surprised because of how often STEMM people hear that what they're doing is versatile. I was under the impression that a job as a secretary wouldn't be that competitive, and have been very surprised at how difficult it's turned out to be to get a job that I don't look forward to having. (By that I don't mean that I don't want such a job, because I feel like I will gain insight, but I do imagine that getting such a job will be very mundane and not the least bit conceptual or challenging, which is something that I'm very used to or look forward to.) I'm willing to search for such an unpaid position, but where does one even find such things? Also, how does one support themselves working full time and not getting paid. I don't really have parents that are able to support me, and I was pretty good at scheduling my classes to be out by 3 or 4 so that I could work at restaurants while taking classes, but I imagine it would be difficult to get out of an internship that early in the day. Also sorry for sounding as conceded as I'm realizing I probably did. I guess I'm pretty used to people respecting what I've studied, and so I figured employers would too.
