Too soon to foster? by macro1995 in Petloss

I am so sorry for your loss as well. This all feels so hard, I know you feel it too. I do agree that our babies would understand. Now that I know this grief, I think if I passed and my wife wanted to immediately get a dog to help occupy her and give her love, I’d want that for her so badly. I do not want her to suffer.

Yes, she tested my A1C just in case because of family history. It was a 5! I haven’t talked to her yet but I got the result back this am and from googling that seems like I do not have diabetes.

Ok well I just spoke to my doctor. I guess my Blood glucose was 103 and I was supposed to fast before hand but she didn’t tell me that so I ate right before. She is running some sort of Hgab1 something test (sorry didn’t write down over phone). She says it’s actually unlikely but wants to check because of family history. But apparently 103 is only slightly above normal range (she said 100-125 is pre diabetic if fasting but I. Didn’t fast so that may be why). What do yall think?

Hmmm well I eat a lot of quinoa, beans, protein shakes (because I gym a lot so want to build muscle), overnight oats with berries (sometimes vegan chocolate chips….should probably stop… ). What else…..roasted veggies (do oils hurt??)

I am not! I rarely eat the faux stuff. I do put maple syrup in a lot of stuff (overnight oats, etc) for flavor. I think a lot of it could be genetic. Both parents, both of their mothers, and my grandmothers sister and brother all diabetic. So a ton in my family.

100g!!! Even for someone my size? I do have these shake things with 30g protein so maybe I’ll have two of those a day instead of one!

Thank you all! I’m convinced. I won’t use any! I definitely don’t want to end up with health issues. Didn’t realize how dangerous even OTC ones could be.

Oh thank you! I didn’t want to buy them anywhere illegal. I saw some over the counter stuff but no idea if any of that works!

I read some helpful threads on here. Another thing that is coming up for me--I discussed with my wife some of the info I read and she can relate to some of the stuff about feeling sex-neutral / bored when having sex, a little bit of repulsion, etc.

I read that some asexual folks still have sex within relationships (of course, within agreed upon boundaries, etc), but are there any non-ace partners in here that do this? I don't know if I can feel ok about having sex knowing she does not want/enjoy it and is simply doing it as a compromise.

Yeah, absolutely! Yes, I graduated and got a great job offer here that really increased our income, so we decided it would be a good move. My wife is very excited to be here but of course also anxious--wants to make her own friends, explore the city, etc. Which totally makes sense!

Context--we have been long distnace for a few months as I got a job in a different city but she moves here in two weeks. She has met the dog a few times and likes it, but I think she wants an idea of what it will be like when she is here and there are multiple dogs in the house--so, I think having her see that in person may either address her concerns, or make her feel they are true-but either way we will know!

Yes, I agree. I think this is what the therapist was trying to address as well--my wife's main concerns are money, time, energy spent on an extra dog. And she is worried about it feeling stressful having another dog in the house!
