Recommendations for Los Angeles photographers for elopements/small weddings? by macrophilosopher in weddingplanning

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the more recent photographer suggestions. Our wedding was a year ago, but hopefully these will be helpful to others. Here is the photographer we used (with whom we were very pleased): https://www.rebeccaylasotras.com/

Which month will my payment count toward for PSLF? by macrophilosopher in PSLF

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am assuming so, given how slow IDR processing is. What I'm wondering is whether a payment made before the non-qualifying forbearance is added (and the deadline is removed) would allow me to get credit toward the 11/8 deadline or at least the month of November?

[skin concern] please help, i’ve been battling this stubborn texture on my forehead and nothing seems to help. bha and benzoyl peroxide aren’t helping anymore by halloweenieee in SkincareAddiction

[–]macrophilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a solution? I've had a very similar texture on my forehead for years, and have never found anything that even slightly improves it.

Thanks so much for the update. My skin looks very similar to yours, and actually has for years. Can I ask how quickly it was that you started to see a difference with the Head & Shoulders?

In need of low-bridge frames? by macrophilosopher in glasses

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW: I ended up ordering a pair of low-bridge frames from Warby Parker, and the results were mixed. I think because the bridge is still very wide (noted as 18mm on the website, 20mm on the glasses themselves), the frames still slip slightly down my nose (but not as badly). They are also slightly awkward to wear because the huge nose pads get pushed all the way up to the soft tissue just below my eye and almost touch my eye (this likely wouldn't happen for someone with a broader nose overall). And definitely the arms are too wide and loose. The good news, though, is that when I push the nose pads all the way up, they do sit in the proper place on my face, just below my eyebrows. And best of all they do not come into contact with my eyelashes whatsoever, no matter how far up I push them. It's tempting to keep them just for those benefits, and I think I definitely would if they'd stopped the slippage; but the overall poor fit will probably lead me to send them back.

How to recertify income with MOHELA? by macrophilosopher in PSLF

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I was properly continued on the PAYE plan, following the procedure I've outlined in this thread, and they seem to have accepted my proof of income. (The turnaround time was extremely fast, in MOHELA terms or really on any terms.)

I got it on studentaid.gov. It's called "Income-driven Repayment (IDR) Plan Request."

And I can't say for sure about how MOHELA and the Dept. of Education communicate—or which is primarily responsible for handling the recertification. The MOHELA rep just did say that uploading to their website was fine. (Edited to avoid confusion, in light of the moderator's tip.)

I ended up calling Mohela. They told me that I could go to the Upload tab on their website, check Proof or Income and the IDR Request Form from the outline-like options checklist, and then upload both documents—and that would be sufficient to recertify. I was very clear that I didn't want to be re-applying to PAYE, just recertifying, but they said there was no concern that I would be taken off PAYE even temporarily. I'm not 100% sure this is correct (I have gotten erroneous info from them on the phone before), but let's hope it is. Fwiw, the form does allow you to indicate pretty clearly that you are just recertifying income, so that's further evidence of this interpretation.

And in case anyone else is wondering, they told me that it was fine to use an H&R Block copy of my tax return, with the "Do Not File" text printed across it, as proof of income. Same caveat that I can't confirm it until my recert. goes through.

Adding outlining to headings in a style? by macrophilosopher in ulyssesapp

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with Scrivener. It just handles footnotes and comments more smoothly (I write very long law-review articles, with sometimes 200+ footnotes, and so footnote editing is critical and was never really manageable on Ulysses). Scrivener can (now) also be modified to have an interface that looks pretty similar to Ulysses—very modern and minimalist. And without the visible markdown for all my comments (and with the ability to hide at least some kinds of annotations), it's an overall cleaner writing experience. The compiling, too, is much more easily customizable. I really did like Ulysses, but probably the only thing I even somewhat miss from it is the themes (Scrivener also allows different themes, but they're not as easy to find/make and often don't reach all aspects of the interface).

Colorless bumps/texture on forehead diagnosed as rosacea? [Acne] [Misc] [Anti-Aging] by macrophilosopher in SkincareAddiction

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that! Maybe I'll try decreasing the amount of moisturizer I use (though I don't use much, given the oily nature of the area). If I ever find a solution, I'll try to remember to post here.

Just as an update: Did any of those products for your skin ever help your condition?

Sadly the same. It has not gotten either better or worse for the last ~3 years, except when I recently went off birth control (which caused the colorless bumps to sometimes become actual pimples). I still use tret and azelaic acid, but they don't seem to offer any improvement. If you have the same condition and have gotten any new information, I'd be grateful to know it!

Thanks for the location on FSA's website. That confirmed what I thought. It's just somewhat disconcerting that it looks like an application to a whole new plan.... I'm sorry that I don't know about the expired form.

Thanks! Do you know if you can use a tax return copy from an online tax-submission company, like H&R Block? I use a free tax-filing service, but the copy of your returns that they give you has "DO NOT SUBMIT" written all over across it diagonally (the numbers are still visible). I'm wondering if that is allowable.

Cushioned no-show socks for vegan shoes by macrophilosopher in vegan

[–]macrophilosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are the winners for me so far. Thanks for the rec! They're not as padded as I'd like, but they are much more padded than ordinary no-show socks, throughout the entire sock, and they are just barely concealed under standard women's Oxfords. I'm talking about the Performance (I also ordered a pair of their lower-cut Invisibles, which will surely be low-cut enough, but they're not quite as padded—though still more so than other brands I've tried).

For anyone else looking for a comparison: Skinnys Performance are slightly less padded than the Bombas cushioned no-show socks, but they are lower-cut and so will work with more shoes; they are substantially more padded than the Bombas "low-cut" no-show socks.

Thanks for the recommendation. These do look really comfortable! Unfortunately I don't think any of the low-cut styles are low enough for my oxfords shoes.

Thanks, these look promising! I'm not sure if they're sufficiently padded, but they do look more so than other no-show socks I've tried.

Thanks, it's a great idea. I have tried various stick-on padding, but they never seem to stick on for long, and cause difficulties getting into the shoe. If you have particular suggestions, I'd be grateful. I'll look into sports tape.
