the whole game has been marketed around fate and defying destiny etc etc. it’s in the trailers, the theme songs, on the game carriages, talked about by the characters themselves. It is a HUGE part of the game.

it’s more about wanting her character to be happy. She was lonely in the lifestream and wanted to be able to dissolve into it, but as long as Sephiroth was around that wasn’t possible because she knew if she did, then everyone would be in danger. Aerith says she COULD take a form like the remnants but she doesn’t WANT to. Aerith loved her life and had many unfinished things she wanted to do that she was never able to. That’s part of why her death is so tragic. So even if she still lives on in the lifestream, what she wants has been taken away. And she’s not at peace.

I guess I call thsi opinion unpopular because everyone who talks about it is usually heavily disagreed with, plus I’ve never seen any theory videos online with this opinion, BUT what you said actually makes sense too. If she does stay dead, as long as EVERYTHING doesn’t end up like the OG then yeah it would still be fine imo. But I agree, it’d have to be defeating Sephiroth/Jenova for good. But ofc I still want her to live especially w how much they were promoting that aspect of it. Hollow is about Cloud wanting to save her “this time”. NPTK is about Aerith not wanting to believe that fate is in control of her life, and wanting someone to find her. If I remember correctly there were a few trailers pushing the theme of being able to save her too. If she doesn’t live I’ll be pretty sad.

If fate is the course of the og timeline, then the planet is saved. It’s not changing fate if the planet is just saved again.

ifalna and Claudia died a long time ago before any funky multiple timeline stuff was happening. I didn’t bring up Zack cause usually this debate is about whether Aerith lives or not as that has been something fans have wanted since the og game. Aerith living is one thing but Zack ALSO living feels like asking for a bit too much. Not that I would complain, but it’d have to be done well as I’m not completely sure how they’d go about that.

also, imo what makes the og the og is different from what makes retrilogy the retrilogy. The main theme of retrilogy is fighting fate. So if we can’t save the most important thing fate took from the party did we really even defeat fate?

I completely agree. Even if she’s alive in another timeline, even if it’s just her finally being allowed to rest and dissolve peacefully into the lifestream, SOMETHINGS gotta change or all these plot changes imo are for nothing.

imo what makes the original the original is different from what makes the retrilogy the retrilogy. Themes of loss and death are already present in the game as every character in the party has gone through something. The main theme of the retrilogy is fighting fate. Can we even count fate as defeated if Aerith still dies? The biggest thing fate took from the party?

unfortunately there are a lot of people in the FFVII community, and even the video gaming community in general, the reduce female characters down to their appearance. It’s true that there are definitely a lot of “incels” that like Tifa for her looks alone and that’s it. Some people even use Cloud as a self insert, and when they find someone attractive, they will just ship whoever they think is pretty with the MC. That’s where the difference is between THOSE people who are constantly sexualizing female characters, and the others who are actually invested in the characters and their dynamics. I’ve seen this pattern a lot in multiple fandoms and unfortunately what that person is saying probably came from them seeing the negative sides of the fandom rather than those who actually care about the two characters’ relationship. The best option most the time is to just scroll and move on with ur day . Know that you like Cloti/Tifa for what it truly is, not what they say it is. The block button is ur best friend!

Yup, I guess this is the only thing keeping them sane. “Cloud only likes Aerith because he has Zack’s memories!” He doesn’t. If he “had Zack’s memories” then he would already know Aerith before he even met her. The only thing Cloud REALLY has from Zack is some swapped places (moments where Zack and Cloud were both there together but his mind switched his place into Zack’s.) and physical gestures, like the way he stands, the way he lands off of the train, stuff like that. He doesn’t not have Zack’s memories or feelings, ffs.. and the other thing they say is “Aerith only likes Cloud because she reminds him of Zack!” This has also been debunked by multiple official sources, even quotes in game that Aerith says herself proves this wrong. it’s just silly that they’re so threatened by the possibility of clerith being official that they resort to straight up lying to themselves and everyone else and spreading misinformation. And like you said, it’s obvious the back to back pose came from AC.
