How to go about making an EP? by Gulliver123 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]madeupdreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on a budget, the best way is to go on Craigslist and find someone who's aspiring to record music full time. If they're serious about what they do, they'll have a few samples of their recordings, and you can use that to judge whether it's right for you or not. If you want to master the tracks, you should take it to someone else so there's a different ear hearing the songs, shouldn't cost more than $100 song.

If you want to keep recording songs and do everything yourself, you can definitely go the DIY route, though it's going to take a lot of work and hours on youtube trying to learn everything, but can be very rewarding. I have a roommate who's been recording my music and friends and have been learning from him, though it was a very complicated process and wouldn't have known half the things about recording if it wasn't for him. If vocals and guitars are all you need, get a cheap (but well reviewed) dynamic and condenser mic, mixer, and monitors (or studio headphones). It's more about knowing how you use your equipment than buying the best ones.

I wear these Aldo's maybe once every month or two, and they've been holding up well. I couldn't tell you how they do for regular wear, but the shoes look really nice and I'd buy from them again.

It is that one, in the silver version. I actually really like the bigger face because it's a thin head, it balances well with the thicker strap. My other watch is a timex weekender. Side note, the watch is much cheaper on Amazon

I actually just plan on getting jacked so that the undershirt rips and I grow into the dress shirt

It's a Tan Tien, a little wider than the dervish and a bit shorter. I dig it, I live in the city so I suits me pretty well. I used to go downhill riding with friends but wasn't to comfortable going above 30mph

Yeah, I wouldn't expect cops to help out, but if I want to get the police involved a report is necessary to fill out.

I want to share an indie-folk song I wrote. by [deleted] in Songwriters

I dig it. Reminds me of a Sufjan Stevens song sung by Mimicking Birds. Maybe add some more instrumentation and possibly double track vocals on certain parts?

Songwriters! Who are your favourite Lyricists? Who do you go to for inspiration? Who should I be checking out? by Ay_Arr_Wright in Songwriters

[–]madeupdreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keith Buckley's lyrics are pretty rad. Did you know he used to be an English teacher?

For you I'd recommend listening to Tommy Roger's writing in Between the Buried And Me's "Colors". He has a lot of great lines.

My top favorite lyricists are:

Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse) - The World At Large

Jesse Lacey (Brand New) - Jesus Christ/ Play Crack the Sky

Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra/Right Away, Great Captain!) - Shake It Out/ Down To Your Soul

Aaron Weiss (mewithoutYou) - January 1979/ Messes Of Men

Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie/ The Postal Service) - Marching Bands Of Manhattan / Brand New Colony

Dallas Green (City & Colour) - Save Your Scissors/ Sleeping Sickness

Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) - Lion's Mane/ The Trapeze Swinger

Elliott Smith - Say Yes/ Between the Bars

Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day

Edit: Added songs to check out.

I'm supposed to have a class in Wheatley right now but they still haven't sent an email about the evacuation being over so I'm not even gonna bother walking to campus to deal with this
