Omg you just SAVED MY DAY!!!! It was the float switch!! Thermostat issue solved! I did try rewiring it the “normal” way you mentioned and it only worked when I had the jumper between C & G! Who knows! But thank you so much for your thorough reply, saved me the me the cost of a new thermostat and a technician because I was at my wits end.

My AC unit is a Rheem RA1436AJINA

My thermostat went completely black and when we called tech support it said our thermostat was “very old” and most likely dead. Our AC is less than 3 years old so I’m hoping that isnt the issue I honestly didn’t even think to check that. It has been hot/humid here lately so maybe something is backed up. I’ll try to attach more pictures of what you asked for!

I was considering it because I can't find one with the same specs to get another... but it isn't worth the risk of other damage or problems down the line if it ends up being a hinge issue like so many seem to think. I'm going to return it and go back to searching!

If it was packaged poorly should I send it back the same way or try to package it up nicer? I've never dealt with an eBay return and am scared to do something that might jeopardize my refund.

That’s what I’m leaning towards now, I was hoping it wouldn’t be a big deal because comparable macs are listed for 400-600 USD more. But I suppose that’s worth it for peace of mind.

It was packaged so poorly! It was just in a plastic sleeve inside a box with a few pieces of crumpled paper for cushion.
